hi becca,
i had posted this in michelle's "took the castor oil" thread but it got buried among lots of other posts that day...

i for one am glad the castor oil didn't work in my first overdue pregnancy -- i was flowing from both ends, guess my body took a pretty strong disliking to it. wouldn't have been a good way to begin labor.

do please tell us about a soap-suds enema though. :lurk: hmm, wait. that's a pretty gross icon to put next to the word enema isn't it? let's try this one instead -- :notes: :lol

let us know if you took it, how to do it, if it works!

i know, that's why i was asking! did i read it wrong??? (not like it sounds any more fun than castor oil, but i'm totally curious.) i thought i saw somewhere once that just warm water would do the trick?

is starcat off having a baby on us? if not, maybe she can enlighten :o

yes...i was off having a baby on you.

That link is exactly right. My midwife said that if you use an enema to get labor going that the soap suds works best. Its a little more irritating- or maybe stimulating than a fleets but not as irritation to the bowel as castor oil. Its a 2 person job, though, and I don't know how you would do it without the right equipment- its a bag with a tube that you can clamp and unclamp, so you control the flow. I didn't do it- but the link that was posted was exactly right, its castile soap and warm water. No massaging needed though.

fascinating. thanks for posting becca and having the guts to google rach :) so my million $$$ question -- anyone have the guts to try it?

i suppose if i go this route, i'd just go with a fleet b/c where am i going to get the equipment to make a castille enema and besides, i only have lavendar castille soap right now -- not the plain mild kind.

i guess i can just wait for nature to kick it in like you did becca, hunh? congrats again!

My sister swears that when she is constipated, she puts a little soap flake "up there" and gets thing moving better than anything else. She says it only takes a tiny amount, to just scrape off a piece of the soap and use it like a suppository.
I've never tried it, and I have no idea if it's in any way safe, just thought I'd throw it out into the discussion!

i dont want to buy all that equipment since i don't do enemas all the time, so i may try a fleet one tomorrow. i used to have a hot water bottle w/ some kind of enema attachment, but i have no idea where that is and dont care to go looking for it.
i will try anythign right now.
i need to find some rasperry tea leafs though...all i have are the tea bags.
