Come on, how lazy can people get.

I just saw someone with a disposable bib! I don't know what they are made of, but I wonder how much waste is created to manufacture the bib, the packaging, etc.

I've never bought any but someone gave me a handful of them when DS was born. I usually kept one in my purse/diaper bag for eating out. (We eat out way too much, but DH and I are getting better about that...) I would still try to remember to carry a regular bib with me if I knew we'd be dining out, but every now and then I'd forget. In those cases I could dig the paper bib out of the bottom of the bag and we'd be good to go...

I do beleive that disposable bibs have a MUCH smaller environmental impact that disposable diapers!

As with all disposable items, they have their place- traveling, "emergency" bib at the bottom of the diaper bag, etc, but I'm sure there are people who overuse them.

I agree, but to me, it's like having disposable socks -- b/c they get dirty, we have to throw them away. I can see why people do the disposable diapers (as I at one time did), but bibs are easy to clean.

I didn't even know they were available and was very shocked when I saw them.

I teach preschoolers with special needs & I have one student who requires an adult to feed him for lunch. We always ask his momma to send the disposable bibs since we don't have a place to wash a regular one. They are wonderful for that reason alone :thumb

I used them occasionally with our son when he was a baby, but didn't really like them because he would just pull it off :irked:

I like them for certain times (eating out). I bought them when ds was little and still haven't used a whole package yet.

A baby died last year when he managed to shove it in his mouth when his caretaker was out of the room.

they are GREAT b/c we are disposable society! there is nothign better than to purchase something (preferably wrapped in alot of plastic, etc.) that we can use once and throw away. (I hope everyone sees my sarcasm!).
like some others, they are good for some things (special needs, etc.) but we as a society are just lazy, IMHO!!!
of course, i also am keeping the sposies that come in the mail "just in case" and to stick at the bottom of the bag. but i think my cd's are so cute that i want everyone to see them and i dont want my friends to see the sposie on the babe even once b/c to them, that will mean i am failing! lol!

If you can stick a disposable one in the bottom of a bag for 'emergency' situations, why can't you stick a cloth one there? I don't mean to be snarky, but I don't get how that in particular makes a disposable bib convenient?

I keep a plastic bib (rec'd at baby shower, so thus free) that you can wipe off in the bottom of the diaper bag for "emergencies" (aka unplanned eating out, etc.). I just wipe it off and put it back when we're done - then I don't forget to replace it w/ a new one. In that regard, it beats a disposible bib that would save you once, but if you forget to restock the diaper bag, you're out of luck. I got a box of sposies for a shower gift and haven't opened it yet. I CAN see using them at times, even though I don't, but I don't get the people who use them all the time. I have a SIL that uses them for every one of her toddler's meals since day one of solids! Just think, in a year she has probably saved...one load of laundry...??? OTOH, the environmental impact is probably low but they are, IMO, silly. :blah

BTW, did you know they make disposible "wash cloths", too? They are dry and pre-soaped....just add water. Use for daily bathing. Again, have a both of those in the closet from the shower. Why?? Sposie wipes I can see....I mean, if no water is available and you don't have premoistened cloth wipes...but...oh, nevermind :)

Next thing you know, they'll come out with whole lines of disposable clothes, too. So much more convenient than doing laundry every week. :p

I have a friend who uses the disposable bibs. I think they're weird.

I bought a bunch of cloth bibs at a second hand store for maybe 20 cents apiece. I kept mine in a ziplock bag in my purse or diaper bag. That way when it was covered in food I could stuff it into the baggy and not have a mess everywhere. Of course, most of the time, I could just roll it up and not have a mess. And I did try to find the vinyl backed bibs since DD spilled a lot of water on herself bach then.

But alas and alack. DD hates wearing bibs so I haven't used on in ages. I might try to use a bib if she has nice clothes on, but most of the time we tend to just do a lot of laundry for her. :lol

I keep a string with clips tied to the ends in the diaper bag so if I'm bibless, I can use it to attach a washcloth/ diaper/ paper napkin to my daughter.
