View Full Version : What's keeping you sane/comfortable?

Since it's my first pregnancy, i'm full of questions, but none of my friends or family have been pregnant since 1985. I'm curious which products, thought processes or activities are keeping you sane and comfortable and keep you from feeling sick or worried. For instance...
*reading (rereading old favorites, actually) takes my mind off worrying, especially sweeping historical novels that just whisk me away to a different time and world, like Jean Auel and Diana Gabaldon and Sara Donati.
*smelling orange and lemon scents keeps me from feeling sick. I'm loving Demeter's Pink Lemonade and my EO Sweet Orange conditioner.
*plain old honey graham crackers are holding nausea at bay.
*cooking big batches of vegetable soups is keeping the fridge and freezer stocked with healthy veggies in the only form i'll really eat them.
*my usual 2 inch heels were making my legs cramp and feet hurt, so I bought a pair of wooly White Mountain clogs. I'm not a clog or wooly girl, nor do I generally spend more than $20 on shoes, but they are now my traveling safety blanket.
*when I am having twingy cramps, I hold my tum, lay on my side if possible and sing in my head, mostly Mary Magdalene's song from Jesus Christ Superstar. :thumb
What's helping you?

thanks for the suggestions...I forgot that I used orange oil with my last pg. I would put a few drops in the shower and it made me feel better. Graham crackers are also making me feel better this time.
Yesterday I took a nap which made the rest of my day better.
cranberry juice diluted with a little water
fresh air and sunshine when I can get it

Mint tea with a little honey.
My computer and just chilling out (the later of which I just never do). Lazy is going to be my first name by the time I'm into the second trimester! I just want to take care of myself a little more this time...
A nap when I get one. I feel tired again shortly afterwards, but at least for a while I feel rested.
A good neck rub if I can smooze my honey into giving me one.
The Christmas lights still up - I LOVE Christmas lights more than anything else.
I need to start walking this week... I hear a mile a day does more for morning sickness than anything else. I don't have m/s so badly, but I'm feeling queezy a lot.

EO's kept the m/s at bay last time, as well... tho I used lavendar & spearmint.
I'm trying to work on a wall hanging/quilt project- in my head that is... when I start to worry. Crossword puzzles. Reading.

- pretzel rods, Life Savers candy, ginger ale.
- naps (I've been tired this time, unlike the first two).
- watching a favourite tv show takes my mind off the nausea.
- I'm not a worrier, but I do like to read a lot, even though I've read the same stuff for the other pregnancies, I like to see where the baby is at developmentally.
- It's hard to cook for the family when almost everything is making me sick. I've indulged in a few frozen food purchases (pizzas, veggie burgers, and a few Amy's organic dinners for myself). It makes it easier when I just can't drag myself into the kitchen for an hour.

Strange as it may seem its all about the water for me.. I have been drinking so much water and it kills the m/s for me. It's been a great relaxant for me :thumb
Mmmm... A nap sounds so good right now - but family is in town and so I haven't had the oppertunity...

Stretchy pants and low cut jeans
Lots of water
frequent bathroom breaks
knitting
reading escapist books
Seinfeld reruns and dumb movies
giving myself permission to eat what sounds good instead of the healthiest choice that makes me want to gag

Not much. I am so sick. I often pray for death. I have the worst job in the world for morning sickness (baker).

I don't know, I think I have the worst job for morning sickness. I'm a nursing assistant in a long term care center. If you think changing baby diapers is bad.... :sick

Yeah that is pretty bad too, but baby diapers have not bothered me in the least.
