My midwife had put me on this tincture called "Postpartum Blues." It is locally homemade. But it is expensive, so my Midwife said I could just take St John's wort. But after a few months it stopped working and I was off any meds for awhile. But I just got worse and worse, so I started taking the tincture again and I feel so much better! Problem is...I'm running out and the stuff is pretty expensive. So, I'm hoping someone knows of a similar thing that I can maybe buy online or at local health food places that might not cost so much. The tincture contains: St. john's Wort, Damiana, Borage, Motherwort, Dandelion Root, & Passion Flower. It's a liquid and you take 1/4 a tsp 3 times a day.

Also...does anyone know about St john's Wort? I mean...plain St John's Wort stopped working for me. Did I get immune to it? Will it ever work again? It worked so well while I was on it. I wasn't 100% better, but it stopped me from having these outbursts of anger I was having. It stopped working and I've just been getting worse and worse. But now this tincture is working and I believe it is mostly St. John's Wort. Maybe since I've been off it for awhile plain St John's Wort might work again?

I only have a sec... But simply put, SJW gets your body to make seratonin instead of melatonin. They are produced with the same proteins and with the same mechanism in your body. However, with imbalance you get into a cycle of making only mel to keep you somewhat functional and you stop with the happy hormones.

When things go far enough there is no more juice to make the seratonin at all. This is when SJW doesn't work. There is nothing it can convince your body to turn into ser.

Many people have good results taking 5-HTP (Its a big dose of triptophan) and then adding SJW a couple of weeks later. That gives you the building materials and the direction to make it into seratonin.

I personally find that I like that along with bach and homeopathic stuff. My depression gets quite severe. There are other things you can do besides that tincture, but unfortunately effective natural remedies can get pricey. In the end it might cost the same as buying several other things to take in combination. And you know it worked for you.

But you may be able to find somehting that's cheaper. Try, if you can emotionally afford to try things that may not work.

HTH!
