:( Hi
I am 27 weeks pregnant today and i had a 4d scan last week when they told me that my baby was breech. My last pregnancy was the same i had a c section for a breech baby. I was really hoping to have a vbac this time round. My first pregnancy(this is my 3rd) ended with a natural birth. I know that there may still be time for him to turn but i am getting really worried about it now, its starting to look very similar to my last pregnancy. I couldnt have a ecv last time as there wasnt enough water around the baby i really am praying that wont be the case this time round. Anyone have any ideas of how i can turn the baby? I feel really guilty when im sat down as i have read that can make a baby breech but i am suffering with spd aswell so i cant really stand up all day long.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Have any of you been pregnant at 27 weeks and had a breech that did turn?
Thanks
I feel so unlucky at the moment :( i really want to have a vbac so fingers crossed. :o

Don't give up hope! I think you still have plenty of time for this baby to flip around.

I am 33 wks and in the same boat. I have to say I didn't start really worring until 30 wks, which is also still very early. I have SI issues so sitting is actually worse for me but I drive and sit a lot at work. I try not to worry as much as possible but its hard. Somewhere I saw that pelvic issues can be related to baby malpositioning. My first was footing breech and I had a lot of sympsis and groin pain. Try to be positive. I know I am.
I got a lot of good resources for spinning baby from this post:

Good luck!

First of all practice good posture, I could be wrong but I had horrible posture with my son and I swear he got stuck under my breast. He was a footling breech so I had to have a c/s. I practiced very good posture with Teagan and she had no problems.

Has great information on turning a breech baby. Will your doctor/MW attempt an ECV? Also do not lose hope. My friends baby turned at 34 weeks. My sisters baby turned a few days before her EDD. Don't let anyone talk you into scheduling a CS for this. You have plenty of time.

Oh you have my sympathy - my 2nd son was breech (discovered at 36 weeks) and I tried everything! Alas to no avail but he had the cord wrapped around his neck a few times so he was right to stay breech. But you have lots more time and hopefully this little bean will spin!
Here is a list of possibles (all recommended by my CNMs) with the most baby wriggling one at the top - After this valiant attempt by him to turn, I decided there was a reason for him not turning and resigned myself to the CS.

[/list] Take a warm bath, relax, after about 20 mins, get hubbie to bring a towel and a bag of frozen peas or a couple of ice packs! Place towel then cold items on the top of your bump whilst keeping the rest of you submerged. Stay in bath for as long as you are comfortable! My little bean squirmed and tried so hard to turn - he kept me up all night trying to move!
Lie head down on a board resting on the sofa for 20 mins everal times a day (just made me feel sick)
Headstands in the swimming pool - get hubbie to hold feet and devise a signal so he lets go so you can come up for air
Acupuncture point - bottom of nail on little toe - My physio applied sticky bandages to my toes to keep up pressure
Lower back massage to expand your pelvic area to allow space for turning
External cephalic version - last resort. I can tell you more about my experience if you want.
Radio and/or flashlight held against your lower abdomen (quite useful to involve siblings to help out on this one!). Apparently baby moves towards the sound/light

Hope you get the turn you need!

Don't let your Doc push you into c-section just because your baby is breech. Especially at only 27 weeks. I can't tell you how many mommas I've chatted with who's babies either turned in the last week, or even during labor. Ask about the option of a trial of labor to see if he will turn then. If not, your doc can always section you at that time. He probably won't like that idea, because it's not handy for him to come in a 2am to see if a baby will turn and then perform a section if it doesn't. I'm sure he'd rather schedule you for his benefit, but that's not fair to you.

You really do have plenty of time. Soooo many babies wait and turn at the last minute. And don't beat yourself up about your posture...that can have something to do with baby's position, but it's not the last word. On another thread around here someone was speaking more of the shape of a mother's pelvis having more impact on where baby is laying than her posture. If it's troubling you then get more conscientious about how and where you sit and it might help. Get a birth or exercise ball and sit on that, do some kneeling positions with your head on the floor/bed and your tush in the air. You can do the inclined thing too, laying on the floor with your tush in the air (I hear a lot of moms use an ironing board propped against their couch)...adding a frozen bag of veggies to your ribcage by the baby's head or headphones with classical music down by your pubic bone. Think rotating thoughts, imagine and visualize your baby turning over, talk to your baby. The power of positive thinking can be amazing.

By the way...I'm just days from my due date and this little guy was persistantly breech until probably way past the 30 week mark. I can't tell you exactly when he turned, it must have been early enough that I couldn't feel it, but he's now head down and deeply engaged, ready for his entrance! He did a lot of somersaulting in there before he decided that it was in his best intrest to stay head down. :wink

I would also recommend seeing a chiropractor now. My chiro says she has a great record of preventing breech in women who have started seeing her before 30 weeks (I started seeing her at 28 weeks because my first child was breech). So far, it's working great for me. My baby has flipped around a lot, from breech to vertex to transverse, but the last two weeks has stayed head down (I'm 36 weeks). Also, my midwife tells me that second time moms usually have more room in the uterus, so breech babies are more likely to turn later in pregnancy (even up to delivery) as long as the baby hasn't engaged into the pelvis.

Make sure to drink LOTS of water, too. I had low fluid with my breech baby and couldn't do an ecv, but the day of my c-section, my fluid was fine due to me drinking lots and resting (on my left side). More fluid makes it easier for baby to turn.

Good luck!

I know it's scary, sarah698. I felt the same way when mine turned breech at 32 weeks. You might also try some relaxation and visualization techniques too. I visualized the baby being head down, and I do think it helps. If you can relax, you might be able to relax your uterus and make more room for him to turn. Maybe have someone (partner, first child?) try talking low on your belly to the baby to ask him to turn. It doesn't seem like it would work, but I really think it helped me in addition to the chiro.

It is NORMAL for a baby to be breech until 36-38 weeks! Please relax and don't stress over it. I would also consider hiring a midwife instead of a doc. The docs are surgeons, and that is what they do. For those of you wanting VBAC, please consider the possibility of homebirth. In many areas of the country that is the ONLY way you will have a vbac....the insurance companies have docs by the throat!!
