My 2 week old DS is my fourth child, so I've had *some* experience with milestones, but Greyson started smiling already! He began smiling several days ago, but we all attributed it to gas or something.
Today he smiled several times when we smiled at him, and he also laughed in his sleep (it was so cute!).
None of my other children smiled this early, could we just be mistaking this?

if you've ever read Ina May's book "Spiritual Midwifery" she has a pic of a newborn smiling the day it arrived! she talks about babies in touch with their environment being early to smile. must be all the love in your house!!!

mine smiled at all different ages, too. ds2 could be coaxed into a smile very early if you tickled his cheeks. must have been those dimples that made smiling a little easier. this babe is kind of slow to start, but at 4 weeks, he's finally giving us a grin now and then. isn't it the GREATEST thing?? and the laughing in the sleep is hysterical!!!

Daphne's been a smiley girl too. I can never get it on camera though since the minute I put that thing in front of my face she stops smiling. LOL

I think if they are capable of frowning and making sad faces when they are unhappy, they are just as capable of making happy faces when they are happy :)

Samara too.

I LOVE the laughing in the sleep thing too. She's only done it twice but both times were huge belly laughs, something you'd not expect from a new baby, so that makes it really funny when it happens.

Wow, you mamas are so blessed! We've seen some gas smiles so far, but none that we're sure are social smiles just yet. Although, big brother started social smiling at 1 1/2 weeks, so I know it's possible.

Laughing already!? How precious!

we've seen just a couple of social smiles (ds is 5 weeks)... but he is starting to smile more just when he feels good. my favorie is when he's just about done nursing and gives a big ol' grin with the boob still in his mouth!! :love
