View Full Version : how are you feeding your family if you are feeling ill?

I'm not having *terrible* nausea (no actual running for the bathroom yet) but it is constant and I'm having a hard time finding foods I can eat. Even worse is cooking - if I have to prepare it, forget about me eating it. The smell of cooking foods makes me soooo ill.
Normally I cook most of our food from scratch, we almost never eat out or eat prepared foods, primarily for frugal reasons. But my poor dh & ds have had to put up with a lot of scrambled eggs lately, :lol. I'm sitting here once again battling with myself over the prospect of thinking of something for dinner versus asking dh to pick up some pad thai on the way home.
How are you coping if you are in same boat?

Dh is a chef, so he is the one who cooks dinner, thank goodnes. :lol But for the girls for lunch, I had dh pick up a lot of "easy" foods when I first found out I was preg ( I KNEW I would be sick). My girls LOVE Annie's canned organic ravioli and Annie's single serving mac & cheese. They also love yogurt and oatmeal (two things I can actually tolerate smelling). Sometimes lunch is just a bunch of chopped up fruit and oatmeal. They don't mind and it's still prety healthy. :o
NONE of the food in the house appeals to me. I am craving take out only. For some reason take out Chinese sounds way better than home made Chinese. I don't know why...

I'm really crappy (that's why I haven't been around much!). I'm doing the easiest meals I know and I also picked up *gasp* frozen dinners and packaged meals! I'm being pretty lenient with our usually strict, healthy diet because I just don't have the energy.
Sometimes I don't even do dinner. Tell my DH to fend for himself and feed the kid. :lol
I hope this is over soon, so I can start participating here again. Good luck to you other sick mamas.

Yeah, I was wondering what m/s was costing other people just the other day... us, it costs us a lot. DON'T ever feel like cooking anymore... but I love to so hope that returns soon. Right now we eat easily-prepared food like sandwiches, pasta, fish sticks, etc. I eat whatever I can stomach and the rest eat that stuff listed above (or whatever else DH wants to help with).
Ugh, right now the boys both pooped and I feel like I'm going to get sick from the smell. :sigh: Poor guys.

Every time I`m pregnant I basically count on spending $$ on take out. Its the only thing I can stand. Cooking for everyone is a nightmare, luckily dh has helped, but then the whole house still smells! If I have to, I keep it bland, rice, eggs, salads, pasta.

So glad to hear that I'm not the only usually healthy eater-cooker who has fallen off the wagon. I just did a major Trader Joe's haul--almost all prepared stuff. And then we ate out last night anyway...

Ugh, I'm having the same problem. Everything seems disgusting to me. I haven't cooked much other than spaghetti in ages. DD is getting yogurt and fruit or tahini every night for dinner, along with some frozen mixed veggies. Fortunately, she hasn't gotten bored of that yet!

I'm glad it's not just me! Dh took along some cash from our "eating out" jar (we budget a certain amount for his lunch at work every week, and anything left over on Friday goes in our treat jar) to work today so that he is prepared for that call at 4:30 telling him that once again, dinner isn't happening at home. It's good to have an understanding husband... :D
