Hi all. We are taking the family on vacation to Disney World for a week. Any advice for an almost 6 month pregnant mama? I have never traveled when pregnant, so I don't really know what to expect. I do plan to wear support hose on the plane (3 hour flight) and on busy days (darn varicose veins!). And of course I will need to build in a lot of rest time. Any BTDT would be appreciated.

TIA. :tiphat:

Congrats on your Vacation! And your new baby :lol

I have only been to WDW at the end of my 1st trimester, and in fact am going in 5 weeks! I'll be in my 11th week. We are DVC members.

That said travelling to WDW during pregnancy can be a challenge. There is alot of walking there and the the time of year you go really matters. Make sure you drink *plenty* of water and yes, take lots of rest breaks. Also get a map and note the location of the restrooms too...which proudly :o I know where most are, in each park. If you are staying at a WDW hotel its great because you can go back to the room if you need a nap, or if it just gets to darned hot and you need to swim/cool down. If not try and duck into an air-conditioned venue for a while and put your feet up. Obviously there are alot of warnings on certain rides that are too jostly or coasters, you want to heed those but check with your Dr. There are 2 in the Animal Kingdom that I know have the warnings but really you should be OK on...the first is the Kali River Rapids and the second is the Safari (which you don't want to miss!). Use your judgement though.

Here's a silly question...what are support hose exactly, and where do I buy them??? :lol

Really, we're flying Saturday and i hadn't thought about anything out of the ordinary except more snacks and water. Now I have to find support hose? For circulation I presume...help!

Standing still is a lot harder on your veins than walking. When you are walking (or moving about) your leg muscles help your veins in getting the blood back to the upper part of your body; when you're standing still your veins have lots more work to do and it's easier for blood and fluids to pool in the lower part of your body. So... when you're standing in those long lines at WDW, try to keep a little movement going--walk in place, etc. When you take a break, try to elevate your feet. I also second the advice to drink lots of fluids! And a good, comfy pair of shoes will be a must-have.

Also, enlist your DP and anyone else in foot massages!!

Good luck and have a great time!

We're also DVC members, and we're taking dd (14 months) in 2 1/2 weeks - I'll be 17 weeks at that point. Nothing new to add, just be sure to keep hydrated since WDW is walk-walk-walk. Walk at your own comfortable pace so you don't get exhausted, and sit out a few rides if you need to rest.

I assume you're going soon, so the weather will be nice but not unmanageable. I love WDW and if I had the chance to go at 8 months, I would! It's my favorite vacation destination by far! Have fun! I am counting the days til we go.

Support hose are like industrial strength panty hose that help w/varicose veins. You can get them at medical supply stores, or online. They are no picnic, but they do help a lot w/varicose veins. If you do not have vv, no need.

I haven't been to WDW but I've been to Disneyland or EuroDisney at some point during each successful pregnancy. I think the advice that would apply to daily life is best - listen to your body's cues. If you need to rest, sit down & rest. Stay well hydrated and be aware that (at least at Disneyland) they only carry Disani water, so if you're opposed to that brand (which spikes their water with magnesium sulfate) then be sure to bring your own and refill at the water faucets. When I went earlier in this pregnancy the heat and lack of fluids really got to me (like w/in 15 min of being in the park). I almost passed out and had to go to their first aid to rest & get hydrated. Don't be afraid to do that if needed, but if you stay on top of your fluids and take breaks to sit & rest then I'm sure you'll do just fine.

Good advice on the water! :thumb I'll be at WDW when I'm 5 months pregnant and right now at 4 months I'm having severe ligament and pelvic pain. I'm pleading with the gods that I resolves itself before WDW. I can hardly walk to the bathroom right now! I'll make sure to wear my comfy Birks, my belly hugger, and bring my own water container, and granola bars.

I'm sad that I have to miss Space Mountain :irked:

I was bummed too, but dh was sweet and told me that it wasn't *that* good. :lol And the trade-off is pretty good. :D

Catch an aisle seat on the plane, bring lots of water with you (theres been too many horror stories on MDC about stewardesses not giving h20 to pregnant women! :angry ), drink juice.

Enjoy yourself, your kids are v. lucky. :)

My advice- take me with you! I LOVE WDW but live in Idaho/Oregon, so if you can imagine, I go through serious withdrawals. :(

You can also find very light compression ones at places like Wal-Mart or something. Those can usually be used on anyone, as they're good for your circulation regardless. But I definately agree...if you don't have VV, you DON'T wanna wear heavy-duty compression/TED hose. Blah...no fun.
