I have been sick with a cold, fever and then a stomach bug for about three weeks now. So my midwife did some blood work and I came back positive for CMV. They didn't seem concerned about it but are still doing further blood work to see if I was positive before I got pregnant or if I was exposed during this pregnancy. Can anyone give me info on CMV? The info I've found so far has me worried.

Primary CMV infection can feel like a cold or even mono. Most people are infected during preschool age so its rare to get it as an adult but it does happen. I was 19 when I got it, wasn't fun:(

it depends on when you were infected with it and if it was your first exposure......you can only pass it on to your fetus if it is your first infection, and then depending on when you contracted it it can have different effects on the baby.....we have a child that lives with us part time who has congenital cmv...she has disabilities but is happy and we love her very much......i know that the results can really vary sometimes with no effect at all on the fetus and sometimes, as you seemed to find online, it can be more serious........pm me if you would like to talk more......

I struggled with whether to post a response b/c what I have to say isn't pleasant. But it's my only experience w/ CMV, so it's really all I can say. I don't know whether this is common or not, but....

My friend got CMV while PG w/ her 2nd child. Her baby died late in the 2nd trimester. FWIW, though: My friend didn't discover she had CMV until she realized something was wrong w/ the baby (he stopped moving). Testing later revealed she had CMV and so did baby.
