Every time I'm ready to sit down and eat is the time that Teagan decides to get the most fussy and is not content to be in her sling, nursed, in her swing or bouncy chair. Every time. I'm not joking. Does she smell my adult food? I always make sure to nurse her until she pops off before I make my own food. I make sure to hold her, change her and every time it still happens.
I love this age in babies but at times they make me want to shoot myself in the head.

every meal for me too. yesterday and the day before i busted my arse to cook really nice meals for us. major production, rolls, salad, main course, wine, dessert, the works. she was asleep while i cooked it, which is why i was able to do it at all...get everything set up, sit down...she wakes up. thankfully, dave offered to take her both nights and walk with her while i inhaled my food so that i'd actually have a hot meal for once. LOL
and i gotta be honest, don't get me wrong - i love my daughter with every fiber of my being...but this isn't a stage of life i particularly love. LOL i mean, babies are adorable and cuddly and sweet but...um...it's not my favorite stage of development. truly. LOL

Michele, I think it's very big of you to admit this. I've been secretly feeling like there's something fundamentally wrong with me because I haven't enjoyed any of my children's newborn days as much as I enjoy them when they get a little older. You're right, babies are adorable and cuddly and sweet, but they sure are a lot of thankless work, too! :D
Oh, and I can't tell you guys how many meals I've eaten standing next to the table, bouncing Will in his sling while trying not to slobber on him and hoping he'll stop crying soon!

This is Weston as well, seems like I just go to take the 1st bite and major meltdown. At least it should be easy to lose some weight eh?

Well is it fair to say that I enjoy her while she is sleeping, nursing, and smiling? But not the other 45% of the time where she is crying?
Unfortunately I think sandwiches are going to become a big staple in my diet. Something I can eat without worrying about spilling it on her.

LOL ava has crumbs on her head all the time!! well, on her cheek mostly actually bc she's usually on her side w/her face smushed against my boob (her fave way to be).
i really do prefer when they can interact a bit more. when they can be amused by things and interested in things. right now it's a very thankless job, you're right

We have this problem, too. We've been searching for solutions because I'm always worried that I'll drop something hot on DS when we're eating and holding him. :lol This week we tried out a bouncy chair that someone lent us. We sat him right between us and bounced him with our feet. He's still a bit grumpy sometimes, but it generally works. He likes the chair because he can see us from it, and he can watch our dog walk around the kitchen. It's worked now for 3 nights and 3 breakfasts, and I think it will get even better as he gets older and can see us walking around the kitchen. :)

last night we went out to a (gasp) restaurant for a friend's birthday. ds fell asleep in his car seat on the way over. he slept peacefully for over an hour but started fussing right as the food arrived.

I seriously do think they smell the adult food and wake up. DS#1 wanted to nurse at EVERY meal. I didn't have a warm meal for the first 5 months or so. No matter when I nursed last he wanted to nurse as soon as I got my plate. I would get so frustrated and DH would just say "Well, let him cry so you can eat." but how can I eat when I know that my child wants to nurse? I just can't.
DS#2 was like this the first few weeks, but now he isn't as bad at all. Though if I do actually cook I tend to do it when he is down for a nap when I know he will be alseep, in the other room, for a couple hours.

Carys knows exactly when I'm going to eat and always absolutely NEEDS to be breastfed right then. I'm getting pretty good at feeding both of us at the same time because of it. Heh.
