Mama/baby bead Update: Lots of info inside

Ok Mamas Here is the scoop!

Deadline to sign up is Jan 27th.
Send your beads in by Feb 14th (a good date to remember!)

The type of beads to send are either glass, stone, or metal (I couldnt find any nice sized wood beads similar in size but if you can then sure, same for clay or other types) I was thinking these would look the best together, but if you have other ideas go for it!

Send in sizes from 8-12 mm (that way they are similar in size, anything smaller or bigger would look strange among the others - most have sizing on them - roughly the size of a pea) Make sure they have a decent sized hole, nothing huge, big enough to get a thick peice of wire/thread through - not so big that yarn would go through if you know what I mean - most wood beads had huge holes) Shape, do we want to only do round or any shape? Up to you!

Then send your beads to me by Feb 14th along with $5.00 to cover shipping and handling. I will string all the beads on thick stretchy cording or beading wire. So far we have about 23 people which seems perfect for a bracelet, or a necklace with just the beads at the bottom and a long "chain" You can send your requests (necklace or bracelet) or if you dont want them strung etc.

Sound ok?

Places to buy the beads are ebay, Michaels and Joannes, Walmart (huge selection pricing from $.94 up to only about $3 for 18+ beads!) beading stores etc.

Paypal payment would be fine, or cash etc sent with the beads works too. Once we hit the deadline (that way we know exactly how many beads we need) Then send the X amount of beads and money to me and I will finish it from there! I totally forgot I had a paypal account...good idea!

oh, do you think that we should send one or two extra beads incase any get lost along the way? ( I forgot between the kids and the cats its bound to happen!) say 25 instead of 23 (assuming there are no others signing up?) I can always send the extras back if there are any. :D

I think it all sounds awesome and I'm getting quite excited! I was on a ddc a long time ago in another web community and we never did anything cool like this. Guess that is another reason why MDC rules, eh?

And I'm so excited, we already have one great bead store about 20 min. away, but just yesterday I passed an empty store practically right around the corner that had a huge sign saying a new bead store is opening there soon!!

I don't quite understand this bead bracelet/necklace thing. Does it symbolize something or say something?

The necklace or bracelet basically symbolizes all us mamas going through the same journey of bringing our children into this world. Its a point for us to focus on while we are in pain and to remember that we are not alone. I know there are some stones and colors that represent positive energy, healing etc. Sooo that and basically just a keepsake of sorts from all us June due date club mamas! It should be a neat peice of jewerly to have as well. The necklaces can be used for nursing (baby plays with it while nursing as those little buggers can easily get distracted) and as a bracelet you can use it to remember what side you nursed last on as well. Just some ideas anyway :wink

just wanted to chime in and say i am still in, i think this is a really really great idea! and i told dh and he thinks it is cool too :D thanks for organizing.....just another excuse to go to the craft store!
