View Full Version : Thrift stores in Germany? Cheap clothing for mom..

Basically, I DESPERATELY need to get some clothing for myself (I came to Germany with only what I could pack in my luggage for my trip and that's not much clothing), but can't afford to go out to most clothing stores and spend € 20 a piece (our budget is extremely tight this month and next). In fact, I'm to the point where I'm considering to beg for people's old clothing on LJ..

Anyway, in America, there are a lot of thrift stores, discount stores, and places you can go that practically give clothing away (Deseret Industries, an LDS owned/operated company takes all sorts of old item donations and resells them at very low prices {like, I've bought jeans for $6, shirts for $2, and so on}.. some of the stuff is technically even new, as in never worn).. But, I've never seen anything like that here in Northrhine Westfalia, Germany. I've seen Warehouses that refurbish and resell furniture and books and things (we bought our coffee table at one, and it's so incredibly beautiful), but not clothing.

We are, for now, fine on baby clothing since we've gotten a large box from some friends of my fiancé's, and will get some more from other friends. (We don't have to buy baby clothing! Yey!) But, I need clothing too.

Does anyone know of anything? Thank you in advance.

Koeln is teaming with second hand stores. Try looking in your phonebook to see what you can find. My experience has been that Germans are far more into the second-hand culture than most Americans. Kleider Markt is a national chain that has some good buys, Humana is another one.

Good luck!

Often Kinder Second-Hand/An- und verkauf stores sell maternity clothes as well.

Ah, thank you, both of you. ^.^

I will need to enlist my fiancé's help with finding those places. *Chuckles* I'd asked him before, but without names he was kinda clueless, so thank you very much for your suggestions.
