Ok, I'm just wondering how many of you mama's have vbac'd your babies that had a large head? Not necessarily a "large" baby...but large head on the baby. And what do you define as large?
Thanks.

I have no idea what would be considered large LOL. Teagans was 13 1/2 inches or something close to that. I have no idea where that falls.

Thanks for the response Emmy. My baby via c-sec had a 14in head, and I was told that that was large for a baby. So, I was wondering if anyone had successfully vbac'd a baby with a larger head. I guess it would all depend on the mother's size too. I'm 5'3" and petite. :shrug Anyone else?

I don't have an answer, but wanted to say that I am planning a VBAC and was wondering the same thing. My ds had a 14 in head, and I am also very small (4' 10" and 89 lbs :lol )....the doc was pushing for a cesarean when I walked in the hospital. So, after a couple of hours of pushing with no progress, I had a cesarean. I am worried that #2 will have a larger head. However, I think that if a good midwife assists with the birth, it can be done! Babies' heads are made to mold during the birth process in order to fit through mom's pelvis, right?
Hopefully, someone will post with their personal story of success!

Hmm... my little (ha! 10.5 pound) guy had a 14.5in head and nobody said anything about it being large. They may have been a little focused on his fat though. My friend had a vaginal birth 2 days later to a 7lb baby with a 14.25 head and nobody said anything about that either, so I just assumed it was normal.

Thanks ladies. I'm feeling much better about a vbac now that it seems like 14in. isn't too big! Guess I just need to get pg now. :lol

I don't know the measurement, but DDs head was in the 99th percentile at birth (and still.....) VBAC was no problem, although I did have a 2nd degree tear.

John is my VBAC baby and his head was also 99%. He came out just fine after 2 hours of pushing and trying different positions. I did have 2 third degree tears and nasty hemorroids, but he was fine! :)
Just lurking since I just had a c-section for baby #2, but I did deliver a baby w/a large head. My first DS had a 14.5 inch head and was born vaginally with no tears. I am petite and 5'3". He only weighed 6 lbs 7 oz so he was all head.

Maybe we could get more specific on the OP's question... Has anyone VBACed a baby with a large head, after having a csec for a large-headed baby?
I'm really curious, because I had a csec with ds (14.5" head, 8lb) after 6+ hours of pushing in every freaking position. His head had molded some, but was totally wedged into my pelvis and not fitting.

I VBAC'ed a 15 inch head (11lbs 12 oz) not even a laceration...thank God they mold! :lol

I would not go into a hospital again, if I could help it. Were you aware that women who are under 5 feet are considered automatic candidates for surgery? Most places they are....sucks, really does. So the only way to have a truly normal birth is at home. how big was your baby?

This wasn't a vbac, but a friend of mine who is 5'2" gave birth to a 10.5 pound son with a large head. If she can do it, anyone can.

I never noticed how big my dh's head was til I got pregnant and I sure worried our kids would get it! Both my dds heads were at about the 90th percentiles so I guess that qualifies LOL
My 2nd was a VBAC born after about 20 min of pushing. I had a 2nd degree tear but I attribute that more to the vacuum extractor that the OB used to help get her out (her heart rate was slowing down more than they were comfortable with, so they wanted to get her out more quickly)
