on some of my subscribed threads I recv. instant notification - which i don't want...how to i change that?

Heather,

When you reply to a thread (or author a thread) you are subscribed to it and will receive notification of a reply in your email inbox unless you have that preference "unchecked" in your preferences. To uncheck it go to User CP>Edit Options>Messaging and Notifications.

When you receive that email, I also believe there is a link in it to avoid getting future notifications. When you make a post, scroll past the icons and past the "Submit" and "Preview" buttons. Below is an Additional Options box where you can specify to get no notification, instant, daily or weekly email updates. It's handy, especially if you are the one starting a thread.

Hmmm...I am se up for NO email notification - and for most of my subbed threads I don't rcv an email but for 3-4 I do....next time I get an email I guess I should actually read it! :lol
