Okay, I just picked up my med records today and I found my operative report for my CS. I am not up on medical jargon, but I could understand this part. It is just vague. It reads:

"The lower uterine segment incision was then closed with 0 Vicyl in a running interlocking fashion. There was noted to be a small vertical extention on the right edge of the incision that was closed in a similar fashion."

What does this mean? A small vertical tear? How small? I am not sure if I will ever have answers to those questions, but my question here is, does this affect my VBAC in any way? There is no other mention of the "vertical extention" in any other part of the operative report. It doesn't sound to me like they made a vertical incision, but that I tore a little vertically. Not sure what that means for me. BTW my doctor never mentioned it to me and we discussed VBAC numerous times after the CS.

Sorry to ramble, I am just a little freaked out. :crying Any advice, suggestions and calming voices would be welcome, Thank you!

sounds like there was a just a small vertical tear on the right edge of the incision. basically, the right edge of your horizontal incision tore vertically, not a lot, but enough that the doc felt the need to mention it. personally, i wouldn't think this would diminish your chances for a VBAC, especially if you talked about VBAC with the doc after the section.

you could always ask the doc about the tear. just say you read your record, and you were wondering how big the tear was, and what effect that would have on a VBAC.

(disclaimer: not a medical professional, but did medical transcription for years.)

I live in the c-s capital of the US and the ob of one of my friends said that he tore her uterus as he was opening her up so she can't have a vbac. This sounds kind of silly to me but I would definitely ask the doctor about it and get some other opinions. I have a feeling that her ob doesn't want to do vbacs. I'm interested to read what anyone else has to say!

My operation report also mentions "a small inferior extension about 2cm long....the uterine extension was closed using 0 vicryl..." I have been told by the OB who did the surgery and my midwife that a VBAC is definately possible. I was always under the impression that tears heal better than incisions anyway. Think of the healing for an episiotomy and then for a tear. I would ask your OB but I don't think you need to worry about it. And it was repaired. You could cross post on the midwife forum too.
