My SIL, who is also my best friend, is due March 14th, and has the same OB as I . This is her 3rd pregnancy, and her other 2 children were 9#5oz. and 8#13 oz. respectively. Since about 27 weeks she has measured 2 weeks ahead of her due date, so she was already wanting him to induce her a week early, which he said he would. :irked: But, now he will be on vacation when she is due, so he said he would induce her 2 WEEKS EARLY!!!!!!!!!!!!! :irked: This just ticks me off. She is about 5'10", and big boned, so there is no medical reason why she can't birth bigger babies. I just can't believe that either of them think this is ok, am I wrong here?? I know it's totally NOT my problem, but for some reason it just totally angers me!!! :lol

All I can say is ((((HUGS)))) my doc induced me a week early with ds but it was
bc I was so huge and to the point that I could hardly even walk anymore and he
didn't see any reason to make me wait another 7 days when technically 39wks
is full term. I wouldn't want to be induced any earlier than that though. Why can't
she wait till he comes back? Or be delivered by an accociate or something?

Thanks Ellymay :love He comes back from his vacation 2 days after her due date. :irked: But she refuses to go that far. I guess having experienced being induced, and naturally going into labor, you could not pay me enough to be induced again!! :lol

Same here even though I wanted to be induced (I didn't ask though he offered) I
am praying that I will go on my own this time bc the contractions are alot more
bearable without anything.....the ONLY way I will ask to be induced is if I go I think
it is like 4 days before my due date with out going on my own and the only reason
for that is bc my dd graduates from kindergarden that week (like 2 days after my dd)
and I don't want to miss that bc I am in the hospital.

Her babies aren't big... that's average! :scratch

I've been induced and gone naturally and there's no comparison even when you are anxious to meet your baby!

Wow! I understand being stir crazy toward the end, but I think its noramal to measure a few cm's ahead, especially with your 3rd or more.

Hmmm... those don't seem like big, big babes to me. :shrug Doesn't seem like the best reason to be induced 2 weeks early. I'd be mad if it was my sister or friend too! :wink

I dunno, I can understand being contemptuous, thinking it's not a good idea and saying so, etc., but mad? Is it really anyone's choice but her's, ultimately?

My sister is having a scheduled c/s 8 days before her due date because...doc is going on vacation, natch. (I bet you never knew that vacation was a major medical indication for c/s and induction, eh?) I'm a trifle worried about her--her first was six pounds and change, so, if there's any uncertainty about dates (I have no indication if there is or isn't), the potential for a pretty small babe is there.

If I understand Sydnee correctly, the "anger" (and I am struggling with a bit of this myself, about my sister's choices, esp. hospital circ) is directed more at the doctors/hospital policies/system of birth that seem to arrange things more for convenience than actual health and wellness of mom and babe. IMO, "tired of being pregnant" and doctors vacation plans are NOT great reasons to start doing procedures.

Yep, that's exactly it, Amanda, thanks!! :love I'm very disappointed in MY doctor for being ok with this. He is usually more "natural" in that sense, he is not one to just induce for no reason, so it irks me. And it does irk me that my friend thinks that it is totally ok with it. Am I going to hate her for it? Heck no!! It's just one of those irritating things for me. :love

As a person who had a baby 5 weeks early I can't believe that anyone wouldn't be willing to wait for a big healthy baby. Having a tiny baby that you worry about is not fun. I dream of having a big full term baby (I may change my mind after delivery :lol ) But seriously, I think it is just sad.
