hi everyone
I have so little time but just want to say congrats to those who have had their baby's and give my love and support those "ladies still in waiting". me and sophia rose are doing great.
quick birth story
I thought I was peeing on myself for 2 days. I figured the baby's head on my bladder was making me leak. started seeing some pink tinged stuff and having mild cramps on jan 17. called hospital and they said "wait til contractions get harder to see if its really labor". then as an after thought I told them about the "pee". They said "come in and bring your hospital bag. we went in and it was not pee but amniotic fluid. Thus I was stuck at the hospital. they said if not in labor in 12 hours they would induce with pitocin. I walked all around the hospital. then, while getting some frozen yoghurt I felt a big gush and then the contractions started. It turned out to be back labor (baby posterior) which I had been fearing. I handled the pain as long as I could with breathing and different postions, bath and massage and then I decided to have an epidural at 5 centimeters. It was just too much pain and I was losing control. That was great relief and I was able to rest for a few hours and dilate fully to 10 centimeteres. At 10 centimeters they told me it was time to push but when I did they lost sophia's hearbeat. Every time I pushed it would get very low or disapear. They told me I would have to have a c section. I was sad but more concerned for my baby then with having a "perfect birth". I stayed very calm as they rolled me to the OR. I did not really believe I would have a c-section. when we got there I kept my eyes closed because I knew the OR and all the people in scrubs would scare me. They were describing the operation to me and the anethesiologist was getting his stuff ready. I felt the urge to push even throught the epidural when they said "we will make and insision on your abdomen, I said, I am going to push now - you better catch the baby. They said "okay, lets give it a try and I pushed 3 times and out came sophia! I was so happy to have not had a c-section. I really think if I had not had the epidural I would've ended up with the c-section. So for me, the one intervention I had (epidural) helped me avoid 2 interventions (pitocin/c-section) I am thrilled with my birth and my baby girl. when they rolled me out of the OR, all the nurses at the nurses station stood up and cheered. I guess they don't see people avoid c-sections very often once they are rolled into the OR. Breastfeeding is going great thanks to the help of a lactation consultant. I would highly recommend seeing one for any problems at all. And for those of you in Oregon I had my baby at OHSU and I highly recommend them for a hospital birth. I was treated wonderfully. wouldn't do it any differently. Good luck to all
