My new DS loves to be swaddles but is such a little wiggler, I was thinking of getting a miracle blanket. Does anyone have any experiences wit them good or bad? He's almost outgrown the little wrap my friend made for him.......

Thanks
Heather

I have nothing but good things to say about the miracle blanket. we used one until my daughter literally grew out of it, her legs just poked out of the bottom! I could put her in it and she would start to calm immediatly, it was a signal to her to sleep. There is a lot of advice on the website about how to use it, how to wean them from it etc. It sure was great for us, and makes swaddling a breeze.

Oh, I was wondering about this, too. I'll be interested to hear whether others would recommend this blanket.

My son really liked it for a limited amount of time (a couple of months) and I found it helpful when nursing him as he kept his little hands in his face all the time. We liked it enough to get another swaddle (not the Miracle, but a Target rip off) for this baby.

We used something similar made by Kidapotomus (I don't know if that's spelled correctly). It was a lot less expensive than the miracle blanket, and since I didn't know if dd would like being swaddled I tried this first. We ended up buying 2 more once we got her home. They come in 3 sizes too, so if your older or longer baby likes to be swaddled, it fits nicely. I got ours at BRU.

We used the kiddopotomous swaddle me blanket too...We had two of them, and they kept my squirmy little one in a swaddle much longer than a receiving blanket! Got ours at BRU also...

We have the Kiddopotamus one too and it's great and a lot cheaper than the Miracle Blanket. You can get them at Babies R Us. The only thing is that it's made of flannel so I don't know what I'm going to do if DS still wants to be swaddled when the weather turns warmer. Already he gets a little sweaty when if I snuggle him too close at night. We'll have to look for something else.

One reason we love the mirical blanket so much is because of the lightweight fabric. The swaddle me was just too heavy and I don't much care for the feel of the fabric (is it polar fleece?). The miracle blanket is just a nice, soft knit, similar to a t-shirt or a light receiving blanket.

I guess they are all good options, but it depends on your fabric preferences.

I just saw a cotton one the other day! :)

I think I saw THREE different ones at kidsurplus.com yesterday.

My mother and I made a swaddling blanket, similar to the miracle blanket, for DD. She would do this thing at night where she would flail her hands and smack herself in the face and wake up. Also she fought nursing by pushing away with her hands. The swaddling blanket was awesome. I ended up buying a miracle blanket, but I liked the home-made one much better as it was thinner and a little bit stretchier fabric. Also we made the little wings inside longer so it was easier to wrap, and we didn't put a pocket in the bottom, since she didn't need her feet swaddled.

I LOVED the mb. DD used it until 7.5 months! I worried that she would have trouble "breaking" the habit but when she was ready, we just used the pointers on the website and it was easy!

I'll be honest. I was intrigued by this miracle blanket thread. I didn't use a miracle blanket with my son, but when he outgrew receiving blankets for swaddling, I used my jammie shirts.

the nice thing about the mb is that it has little flaps to secure babe's arms underneath his body. of course, my ds still breaks free, but it does work better than the others, IMO.

I can't believe you guys actually like the kiddopotamus and/or other mb knockoffs. I mean, I think its great if it worked for you, but I found kiddopotamus and the first years one to be pathetic. I had a size small of each. My dd was born at nearly 8 lbs and 21 inches long, pretty standard sized newborn. If I wrapped her tightly enough for her to feel the swaddle (all swaddle instructions say it should be "snug"), the tabs would bypass the velcro attach point. I had to use safety pins to keep it tight. Once she grew to the point where the velcro was even close to being usable, not only was the velcro too weak to withstand her wiggles, she had outgrown it height-wise! Plus, with the kiddopotamus, she was always kicking the leg pouch off, and then she'd get cold. The velcro tab for that pouch was always misaligned or just too weak for her.

So I invested in a mb, and what a difference! The arm flaps and the length of it, and the option of leaving the leg pouch off, make it much better a product. I still do use the safety pin to keep it from loosening when I pick her up. (It is different, though, in that the safety pin is going through the top of several layers as opposed to one layer right over the skin. And it is long enough so I can put the pin through over her belly, where there is a little more slack, as opposed to the other wraps where the pin had to go through on the back, where it is more taught (sp?) and I worried about sticking her back.) Actually I'm starting to wean her off the swaddle, as she's nearing the 5-month mark. But I am keeping the mb in case there's another baby in my future. And I would NEVER buy one of those knockoffs again. (The knockoffs run about $10, and you have to buy different sizes, whereas the mb costs $25 and will fit from newborn through 6 months... so really, there's no big savings either. And mb's have a much higher resell value.)
