View Full Version : Microwave worries?

hi!

I wanted to hear what you all thought about microwave use during pregnancy, especially the first trimester? I work in an office where I am seated 3 feet from the microwave and every time someone goes to heat something up I am tempted to hop up and run away. Of course, they don’t know yet that I’m pregnant or I wouldn’t feel so weird doing it (especially when it’s the boss, shouldn’t I be on task instead of loitering by the file cabinets, I always assume she’s wondering). It is usually 4-5 times per day – is that a worry? And, if I should avoid those bad micro-waves, how far should I run away? Is behind a cubicle wall far enough?

Tx in advance for all of your helpful advice!

I don't know for sure if this is valid or not, but my dad would never let me near the microwave, my whole life! To this day, he still makes me leave the room!
-I've definitely been avoiding it since I've been pregnant

My cubicle at work is less than 4 feet from our office microwave. There is a 6 ft high cubicle wall that separates my work area from the microwave. When I was pregnant I got up and moved away from my cubicle whenever someone microwaved their lunch. I'd go use the printer or copier or to the bathroom. I also didn't tell my co-workers about my pregnancy until I was well into my 4th month. No one suspected anything. My doctor didn't think there was any harm in being close to the microwave but I wasn't about to take any chances.

I dunno either. My DH and I threw away our microwave (prior to and unrelated to pregnancy) because we just didn't think it was any good.

Your boss will probably think you're a nutcase if you bring this up. Perhaps this won't bother you - if not, you go girl! - but if it does maybe you can say something about the noise or distraction bothering you and asking if the microwave (or you) could be placed elsewhere? It DOES have a piercing buzz sound, and I have no doubt this probably is distracting anyway, besides the other (possible) issues.

Mircowaves are terrible. Pregnant or not. They give off extremely negative energy. (any machine does, be it computers, tvs, refrigerators. etc) not to mention countless other things....

According to Dr. Sears' [U]The Pregnancy Book[U], if the seal on the microwave is okay, you should be fine. If in doubt, don't be in front of it when it's on.

Aparently Dr. Sears doesn't know what effects EMF's have on the body.

Wasn't defending him - just stating what I had read that morning before reading her question.
