Is there any reason NOT to have sex right at the end of pregnancy?? I think I'm worried it will prematurally break my waters or something :blush

Go for it mama! You may not want to for awhile after the baby.I do have to warn you that it may start contractions.I wnet for it the other day and had to lie down for the rest of the afternoon if I wanted to keep this babe in for my mom to be here. :blush (2 more days )

We had sex.. that's what made my water break. I guess if you're ready for the baby to come, do it!! It'll just make the process happen that much faster. My water broke 3 hours after we did it.
The nurse told us that my water bag was bulging out and if we did it would break. So, it just depends on if you're body is ready and you are ready..

Go ahead and dtd. If having sex makes your water break, then it is about to break anyway. I read an interesting tidbit somewhere(if I could remember where I would cite it for you, maybe Sheila Kitzinger(?)), that having sex while pregnant with the father of the baby actually lowers your BP. And lots of cultures (Jamaica specifically comes to mind) believe that having sex near the end of the pregnancy keeps everything working properly so the baby can come out easily. So, if the idea appeals to you, go for it!

Well I see no reason why you shouldn't especially, that after you have the baby they claim you should wait around 6 weeks till you have intercourse, or when everything is healed. With my pre-term labor earlier we didn't because they said it would make me contract. So we just started up again, lol!!!!
Sometimes what got us in this situation, could get us out, if the time is right, and baby is ready. Nothing happened yet for me though, and I am almost 39 weeks>>>>>Waaaaaaaaa........ I am so ready to have this baby girl!

The last two times DP and I have had sex, I've lost part of my plug and had really strong contractions all the day afterwards. At first we were concerned about this, and held off for a bit, but now that I'm nearly 39 weeks I would like it to be a more regular thing! :thumb
I say go for it - like everyone else said, be ready for baby to come!

I guess I should have mentioned that the reason I'm concerned it might break my waters is because that is how my first birth went. 4 days late, had sex sometime during that time to help move things along, waters broke and NOTHING!!! Was induced 48 hours later. So I guess I have a fear of waters breaking without labour starting. I would really like to experience a "normal" start to labour this time round :thumb

with my last pg. we had sex when I was a couple of days over due (knew it would probably be a long time before we got the chance to again), and my son was born the next day. The act triggered a big contraction and I woke up at 7am with contractions, they got progressivly stronger thoughout the day and DS was born at 11:45 pm.
I know that I read in a couple of places that sperm (or seamen or both) contain a chemical (proglastins?) that help to soften the cervix (or ripen, or something that helps labor to start) when you're close to your due date. Anyway, it worked for us.
If you are ready for baby, rest for as long as you can after, or better yet sleep, and let those cemicals stay on there as long as possible.

Yes semen ripens the cervix. However, if you are really concerned that it will rupture the membranes and not lead to real labor, you could do other things...that bring on contractions...but wouldn't disturb the cervix as much... :wink
