I need to work a couple weeks out of this pregnancy to pay for some expenses like midwife and such. Anyway, I can't see paying a fortune for clothes i'll wear 4-6 weeks tops. I'm going to check thrift shops and such but i'm wondering if it wouldn't be cheaper to just get larger size tops. I won an auction on ebay for slacks that hopefully fit but I need tops. I just got a call to start a temp job next Monday so I have a week to find clothes, should I bother putting out money for maternity shirts or just larger size shirts that I can wear after due to huge boobs while BF (normally B but was EE the 1st year of BF and none of my shirts fit!) I'll be 24 weeks next week so not to big yet.

Well, I'm 33 weeks, and own ONE item that is "maternity." Just bought some cute Old Navy gauchos.

Personally, I found that maternity clothes sucked, and larger sizes of regular clothes were not only a HECK of a lot cheaper, but fit better and were MUCH more comfortable.

So, do with that what you will!

With my first DD I was pretty small. I had a bunch of regular pants that had elastic waists, and those worked just fine. I wore them under my belly when I got bigger. Plain black pants worked best for this - I'm sure tons of people thought I was wearing the same thing every day but tough tacos.

Shirts are tougher. I really did need maternity shirts because regular shirts in a larger size were not at all long enough, and they fit like a camping tent. I tried on a few and discarded that idea. I invested in 4-5 tops that matched my many pairs of black pants :lol and it wasn't that expensive.

You probably could get away with just larger-sized shirts, but then as you get further along you'll end up with the hem doing that weird thing where it's really high in the front.

Psst, what size are you? I've got some work-type maternity clothes from ds I've been trying to sell because I just won't be using them. :)

6-8 pre prego, I dont plan on working past 32 weeks, just need some extra cash to cover the expenses now, if I was going to work the entire time i'd shell out the extra money.

If you have the resources around you, some other inexpensive options are Goodwill (I just scored some adorable Old Navy maternity capris there for $6!), Savers, and consignment stores. If you have a sense of how you "wear" pregnancy (high/low belly, wide/out front), you might be better able to judge if just buying regular clothes in larger sizes would work for you. I start out the same size as you, and in my experience, larger sized shirts just weren't long enough after awhile and tended to hang funny all over anyway, so I bought quite a bit, inexpensively, from Old Navy and a handful of local consignment stores that carry maternity. Good luck!

I found that regular clothes in larger sizes didn't work at all for me because the shoulders wouldn't be in the right place, the pants would be far too long, etc. But I'm only 5' tall, so I have to buy petite maternity clothes. I borrowed most of my work clothes from a woman I knew that had a baby a year before me. You might be able to do something like that or get a few basics on the trading post here, or Old Navy. If I hadn't given all my things away....
