At my 36 week appointment yesterday, my midwife said that I have just a trace of leukocytes in my urine. She thinks it might be yeast and banned all sweets. She wants me to pick up some acidophilus and take a triple dose for three days.
Is this really necessary? I've never had anything abnormal on the urine test strips before, so I just wondered is this was cause for concern. I had been drinking a lot of lemonade, could that have caused it? Thanks!

October, I have had leukocytes in my urine every time my urine was checked in all of my pregnancies. I think a trace can be very normal and usually is just "run off " from the vag. discharge. I think giving up all sweets is kind of extreme, some people like being totally off all sugars, but I think its an extreme reaction to a trace of leukocytes.
We test our own urine at my midwife's office, and I've had leukocytes almost from the start. My midwife just says it's increased vaginal discharge, natural, normal, and necessary! I wouldn't even think about "treating" it unless there are some other signs of yeast. Did she say there might be another reason for the dietary change?

No reason for the dietary change other than that. You're both confirming what I already thought. I would like to add that I have hardly any sugar in my diet already, so I wasn't sure I wanted to give up the little I had. Thanks!

:down Yep, its okay! And I actually had a yeast infection I couldn't get rid of a week before my due date. And it was fine, no problems at all. Okay, not that you all needed to know that I had a yeast infection, jeesh, the things we will say online that we don't talk about in public! :o
