Hi all! Well, after 8 months of preparing for a vbac, we found out last week our baby is breech. I feel more comfortable having a 2nd c-section because she is breech than any other reason, and know there is still time for her to turn. We are considering doing a evc next week, I am due 2-23. Has anyone every done one?
I (we) spent lots of time preparing ourselved for this birth. Our 1st was 9 yrs ago, I was 10 days overdue, knowing the baby would be over 9lbs, and went for inducement 3x's, the 3rd try I dilated 3cm's when baby went into distress and I had an emergency c-section. After yrs of trying for a 2nd I had an etopic 3 yrs ago, but last July we were pleasantly surprised to find me pregnant! We hired a wonderful doula and went to Birthing from Within classes, we are much more knowledgeable, thankfully, but it still doesn't prepare you emotionally. I keep thinking, if my baby does turn and I do get to try vbac, what if I don't dialate again! Thankfully my dh is so positive! He has been very supportive! Maegan Rain is kicking again! It tickles :) Any thoughts, comments would be appreciated.

I was scheduled for an ECV but my water broke before it.

Here is a good site with lots of information on turning techniques. I've heard lots of success stories using a chiropractor that is experienced with the Webster technique.

http://www.breechbabies.com/turningabreech.html

Other than that, I would not schedule a c/s. If baby is still confirmed breech once you go into labor, then have a c/s. That way you give baby the most time to turn and you will have assured that baby really is ready to be born (less chance of respiratory problems).

Good luck!

wow, stacey- what a journey! While I would certainly find a GOOD care provider to try a version, I would try a few things between now and then...

have you tried homeopathic pulsatilla? acupuncture? moxibustion? inversions on the ironing board? visualization? webster technique? playing music at your pelvis? how are your emotions about this birth? any hesitations, fear?

if i had tried absolutely everything, and to no avail, I would look for a good person to do a version. some are not too skilled with it, others really don't try hard, because, quite frankly, they'd rather section us... and, there is always the option of finding a midwife to deliver a breech vaginally, as they used to do "in the olden days." is this an option for you?

if, i had failed with turning the baby, and decided against a vaginal delivery, i would certainly wait for labor to commence rather than scheduling a c/s. this gives the baby the opportunity to turn, and also gives it some really benefitial uterine "hugs" that clean out it's lungs. AND, i would ABSOLUTELY require a u/s to confirm the baby WAS NOT vertex before the operation.

my .02. if you want more info on the ways to turn a breech, or on vaginal breech elivery, please ask.

thinking "heavy head" thoughts for you and babe.

thank you both for your replies, I checked out the link and found it very informative, thanks. I will go into more detail.

I have been seeing my chiropractor almost daily all week. We have been talking and playing music to my pelvis. The ironingboard positions and others I have done for a few minutes, but find them uncomforatble on my knees and all the blood rushing to my head. Sunday I started taking pulsatilla. I picked up blue cohosh tea, tried it, but am hesitant to try 'too many herbal things'

My fears, hmmm, I still fear I will not dialate. I was told by my ob there is no genetic evidence of births passed on from mother to child, but my mom didn't dialate either, and was late, and had 2 c-sections. I fear a c-section because my first was so painful, I don't hink I was given enough anastecia(sp?) and was screeming I could feel him being torn from my body. This brings on a new unackowledged fear, that my son faced a birth trauma, I have read lots of delivery reports where the child remembers the birth, and I hate to think my son remembers me in so much pain.

This Thursday is the scheduled external version. They will do a sonogram first, so we are hoping it won't be needed. The practice I go to has 3 dr who do the versions and this one is the best, with a 100% success rate and 200 or 400 done(I forgot).

It was a relief for me to find out my dr is okaying me to go a week over my due date, I am due on 2-23, but they said I can wait to schedule a c-section until March 3rd, so I am hoping to put off the scheduling if all goes well. I am still slightly intimidated by dr's, but am trying to balance what I know is right with what 'mainstream' dr's want.

Jaya, I would love your .02 about waiting to go into labor even if she is breech, instead of scheduling a c-section. I had thought that only a baby who's head was in the canal would benefit from contraction 'hugs' I will keep you updated and thanks again!

Great news! The baby had turned! When we arrived at the hospital, they did a sonogram right away and her head is down!! We were so excited, everyone was! I told my husband, (and all concerned friends and family) that I wasn't going to be nervous until after the sonogram, and then there was no need to be! I really believe my chiropractor had lots to do with the baby turning, that and all the positive thinking!!! I am so happy that I can still plan a vbac now......only a few more days left!
Thanks everyone for listening and helping! I hope she stays put now!
