*sigh* 36 1/2 weeks pregnant, sore throat, runny nose, icky..icky..icky! The whole pregnancy I'm good, then WHAM, towards the end I get sick. This just isn't right! What's my comfort when I'm sick......lots of orange juice, the problem....GD, can't have it would mess the blood sugars up! Let's just hope this goes away soon!

I'm mentally sending you a nice warm blanket, a cup of tea, and a crate of tissues. I hope you feel better soon. What rotten timing!

Do you mind if I join in whining with you?

Ds and I have colds here, too. And I'm 38 weeks! This really isn't fair. I had a cold when I was 40 weeks pg with ds, too. He was born at 42 weeks, and I wasn't entirely over my cough yet. I never noticed it during the birth, but afterwards coughing made everything hurt!

Here's to sending us all good-health vibes...

Aw....happened to me too at 36 weeks, bad chest cold with coughing and runny nose. I took the morning off work and slept as much as possible....since we can't take much for it. Helped me a lot, if its possible for you to just find the time to get some sleep. Hope you feel better.

FWIW, my homeopath/doc said that orange juice should be avoided if you have a cold, it just adds to the mucus production (unless it's raw/unpasteurized, then it's okay.)

How about some Emergen-C Lite, the "Lite" version doesn't have any sugar added, but lots of Vit C & good vitamins/minerals.

I FINALLY got over that NASTY sinus infection, but I'm just stuffy all over again, painfree, but stuffy. I think I will be that way until I give birth - I was never this sick with my other two pregnancies! Grrrrrr!!!

Lots of hot tea, rest & try that Emergen-C, it's yummy! :Hug

Here's my "me, too" post... sore throat, congestion, low grade fever... *sigh* At least I don't *feel* sick. It's just annoying. I have been healthy all through this pregnancy, through school epidemics of stomach flu and bronchitis, though, so I shouldn't complain!!

is any specific kind of warm tea better than others to heal a cough/sore throat? (chamomile?)

:sick me too.

My kids got an awful fever last Sunday night (both 104) and were sick all week (and are still sick, ugh). Then I got some version of it on Wednesday. I can't remember EVER being this sick. Now it's turned into a nasty rattling cough, and I don't feel like my muscles can even help me cough any more.

Traditional Medicinals makes some good teas---Throat Coat is very yummy and has licorice root so it doesn't need sweetener-it makes your throat feel so much better. I'm also liking their Gypsy Cold Care and Breathing Thyme.

I've also been tapping into my labor supply of Recharge--lemon lime flavor, mmm.

I also have an oil blend with basil, eucalyptus, pine, rosemary, and some other ones that really helps.

sending everyone healthy healing fairy dust :dust

http://www.motherlove.com/faq_herbspregnant.php says here, under "Herbs that affect hormones in pregnancy," that licorice is contraindicated in pg.

I don't know if this would have the same effect as OJ re: mucus production - I think it doesn't in my experience, so FWIW: hot lemonade! Most excellent. A little hot water, some lemon juice, and a few drops of stevia, and some cayenne if you can stand it. Just a tetch of the cayenne. That's my comfort bev for colds/sore throats.

Had one a month or two ago - hit it with this, garlic supplements about 3000 mg a day right at first, and commando-style resting - by golly, it knocked it right out. Oh, and astragalus tincture 3x a day.

Hugs to you sickie mamas. Bad timing! But survivable, I do hope.

I would think that the hot lemonade would be okay since it's not pasteurized & it has so much vit. c. Sounds yummy - think I'll have some (minus the cayenne!) Ditto the garlic, I was putting chopped fresh cloves in *everything*! Didn't help with the heartburn though....

Yeah, it actually says on the Throat Coat box to check with your healthcare provider. So double check with your healthcare provider. :thumb

On a positive note...think of all the immunity that you are providing for your baby!

Mom...and the rest of the family got a bad flu when she was 9months pg with me. She was glad that I stayed in there a couple of extra weeks because it protected me from getting sick.

Hope you get to feeling better soon!
