View Full Version : Please someone help! Insane nausea for 10 days...

I'm sure this is normal...but I need some reassurance. I have been so ill for 2 weeks - I'm not sick to my stomach, I'm just constantly nauseaus (sp?). It won't go away - its 24/7. There are no "waves". Whether I'm sleeping, walking, working, eating, not eating, taking a shower, relaxing - everything I do! I wake up to use the washroom at 3 in the morning and I'm nauseaus.

I'm sure I sound like a complainer, and I'm really sorry if this is normal and I just need to be told to "suck it up". I'm pregnant! What did I expect? Well, to be perfectly honest, I didn't realize it would be this bad...I actually sat down in the middle of Penn Station last night on my way home from work and broke into tears b/c I was dreading getting on the train and dealing with the train for an hour.

If I take my pre-natal vits, I am even worse so I've been avoiding them for 3 days now.

So, first of all, is it normal to have nausea 100% of the time? And is there anything I can do about it? (I've tried ginger ale, eating small meals throughout the day, eating carbs to help with excess stomach acid, etc.) I talked to one midwife a few days ago and she was like "well, at least you only have about 6 or so more weeks of this." I don't know if I can handle six more weeks of this!

Please tell me this is normal...again, I'm sure it is. I'm probably just being a wimp...I just need some reassurance. Even my DH is worried b/c none of our friends who have been pregnant have had nausea to this extent.

Thanks! And please feel free to tell me to "suck it up" if that's what i need to do!

:( andrea

I eat ginger or drink ginger tea when I'm feeling nauseated.
I don't know how much is normal, so I can't help you there. I've been lucky in that my nausea hasn't been overwhelming this time, or in past pregnancies.
Hope you feel better soon! :hug

i'M SOORY TO HEAR YOU ARE FEELING SO BAD. (sorry caps) Some mamas have had luck with sea sickness braclets and pregnancy pops (sold online I think). These days really do pass quickly (in hindsite) be good to yourself and rest as much as you can. Tell your dp to be extra kind to you and you will reward them with a beautiful baby :lol

Mine is mostly all day. It is better and worse, but I've done the 3am wakeup and nauseous too.

My multi has extra B6, I munch on crystallized ginger when it gets really bad, and I try to eat a little something frequently (nuts & berries mix works well).

Try to be strong and remember that it's a "good thing" hormonally. :innocent

I felt pretty nauseous with my first until around week 12 (and not just in the mornings - pretty much all day). I never threw up really. I think you can count yourself blessed if you're not throwing up. To battle the nausia I had to eat pretty much all day long. Anything that doesn't make you gag to think about is a good choice :wink I would suck on lemon candies or life savers if I really didn't need anything to eat. I kept raw almonds in my desk at work and dried fruit (I can't remember what all I had).

As far as your pre-natal vitamins go, can you change brands? I'm taking Rainbow Light Pre-natal Complete System - I found them online for $28 for 2 months worth. I was taking a different brand with my last pregnancy and I think these are making a difference this time. I'm starting to feel a bit nauseous, but it doesn't seem to be as bad as last time (and I'm chasing a toddler around this time, too!!).

It is normal and everyone's experience is different. It will end, though - just hang in there!! :hug

Popping in from September...

I have nausea pretty much all day/evening. I get a break of about 3 hours in the morning. It was the same way with my last pregnancy, so I know it will end eventually. Hang in there. It's really tough emotionally to feel horrid all of the time.

Here are some things that helped/help me:
-madarin oranges - with dd1 I literally ate a bag of these a day for about 2-3 months. It was the only thing that didn't make me feel worse.
-along the citrus line, sniffing lemons or oranges helps to get me through a bad wave of nausea.
-drinking something bubbly, like flavored seltzer or diet sprite
-50 mg of B6 a day. not sure if this is really helping, but I'm doing it just the same.
-ginger tea - steep some grated fresh ginger in hot water. strain and drink
-for dd1, eating cracking also helped. not so for this one.

I hope that some of these ideas work for you! Just try to remember that it really will end.

first of all big :hug to you!!! i had nausea like yours with my first 2 pregnancies and it soooo hard.

here are some of the things that *helped* me. they didn't make it go away (not by a long shot) but they helped.

-sea bands, acupressure wrist band thingies.
-extra b6. look this up but i think you can take 200mg a day.
-drinking very very slowly. even though i was super parched if i would chug anything i would be instantly about to vomit.
-unsalted almonds (protein helps and this was one form i could stomach)
-just eat whatever sounds remotely appealing.
-coke.
-if your vitamins make you really sick don't worry about not taking them.

i know rainbow light makes an herbal pill called "good mornings" or something like that that is supposed to help with morning sickness.

more :hug for you because it is sooooooooooo hard.

I know just how you feel. I've been pregnant 3 times before, and everytime has been like that for me. The constant nausea, not being able to force myself to eat. And if the prenatals are making it worse, it's okay to stop taking them. I have yet to find a prenatal vitamin that doesn't make me sick.

By all means, try all of the suggestions listed above. But if they don't work, don't feel bad. I was never able to find anything that helped me.

But mostly, I just want to offer a big hug. I've been there, I know it's awful (and I'll probably be there myself again in a few weeks). But you will get through it.

I know how you feel! I was sooo sick with my first pregnancy. I choose my midwife based on her excellent advice (I had interviewed 6 or so and hadn't decided when the nausea hit). She told me to eat a little bit all day. I'm pretty sick this time too, and I've found that if I have say, two bites of toast and a couple sips of water then wait 20 - 30 minutes and have a few more bites and a few more sips, I am much closer to functioning than before. I think sometimes have an empty or full stomach can make you sick!

Thanks for all of your support and great ideas! I really appreciate it...I think it puts my mind at ease that there are other pregnant women out there who feel the way I feel (or felt the way I feel)! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Now...TMI...I was finally able to be sick to my stomach about a half hour ago, and I feel a million times better. I know that being sick could happen a lot but the ease after being nauseus (how DO I spell that word?!? LOL) for so long is just so good. And I know it can't be nice to be sick all of the time, but the break is good.

Thanks again ladies. I really needed your help this afternoon, and I ordered the Pregger Pops online today and my DH is picking up sour lemon candies for me on the way home. And I'll pick up tangerines tomorrow at the grocery store (I already have two cases of ginger ale and ginger tea in the pantry!).

THANK YOU!!! I can't say that enough! LOL!:)

I'm so glad you're throwing up! How awful is that? :lol

I was nauseous with no vomitting through my first pregnancy and nauseous with vomitting my second pregnancy. I felt MUCH better the second time, so I know what you're saying.

So far, no throwing up this time. Quite nauseous most of the time, but I'm keeping everything down. Ick.

I'm going to grab some Pregger Pops myself, I think. Payday is tomorrow :) Glad you're feeling a bit better!

I feel your pain! I basically didn't move off the couch when I was pregnant with DD. I hated feeling so sick. Of course by the 16th week when it was starting to get better, I remember freaking that something must be wrong!

I just wanted to throw out there that my midwives suggested I try accupuncture when I was feeling so bad. I didn't do it and now I wish I had. I've been feeling icky on a much milder scale this time, but if it gets worse I will definitely be making an appt.

good luck!

does anyone know what's in the pops that makes them work?

:lol You just described my pregnancies to a tee! That's exactly how I felt when the morning sickness subsided. It didn't take long before I became grateful to be feeling weel again.

Suck it up.

You're pregnant.

It's normal.

:lol

Just remember, my friend, you won't feel this way for forever. I'm in the same boat as you and it sucks. I find eating bread products helps, not necessarily my waist line, but certainly the nausea.

Andrea,

I have something called Morning Sickness Magic by baby's bliss brand. They make Gripe Water (which I liked for my son), so I decided to have some of this on hand for the first trimester. I've also seen something called Preggie Pops and Queasy Pops - but all of these products basically have ginger (as the PP suggested). Anyway, I looked it up, and you can get them here: http://www.longhorn-e.com/index.php?Operation=ItemLookup&ItemId=B0009LHZ12 or try a home remedy. Good luck!

My first pregnancy I was nauseous all the time that I was awake. Never threw up.

Here's how I coped:
1. Drank fruit smoothies which helped me get my vitamins naturally.
2. Took naps because for 1 hour after I would wake up I was okay and then the nausea would hit again.
3. Ate white bread and cashews and fruit smoothies.. That was it for 5 weeks. It was all I could stomach.

Do whatever works for you and gets you through the day. Hope it passes soon.

I had no nausea during my second pregnancy. I couldn't believe I got so lucky. :)

Hello!

Don't feel bad for thinking you are complaining heck we are allowed to complain especially when we are pregnant :lol IM about due around the same time as you (OP) im just starting to feel that on the edge of vomiting ( but dont), empty stomach feeling. I take the Rainbow light complete prenatal system and I had to stop for a day or 2 cause i just dont want to swallow them. One thing I do think has helped as soon as i take it is if you can find something that is High in Vitamin B 6 for that i take via viente however im sure there are other High vitamin B 6 too.

Lara Bars or any kind of complete food bar is good if ya can stomach something like that .

Last night it was more of a hearburn, acid feeling i had to make sure when i laid down i kept my head somewhat elevated.

Im fully taking advantage of the napping even with a energetic 2yr old. He's very patient with me and if i feel like laying in bed he will lay with me or play in the room next to me.
We just napped from 1030 to almost 1pm... Im taking all the naps i can:love

I keep saying im gonna head down to the herbal shop downt he street for ginger tea however i havent yet

HI Chai,

A suggestion also is try looking up your symptoms with what homeopathy remedy best would fit. This evening I took a nux vomica which is a known remedy for acid indegestion / heartburn/vomiting/nausea and i took 1 30C and 15 min later another 30C and feel good:thumb however i also just ate 1/2 of a pizza ( with rice milk cheese) I think both helped cause i didnt really eat much today..

I feel exactly the same. Nausea 24/7. It sucks. But I am so glad that I have it. With the last baby that I lost- I felt "too good to be pregnant" for a few days before I miscarried & knew that something wasn't right.

I think you can buy ginger in capsule form from a health food store.

What I'm doing- is eating constantly. Doesn't matter what it is- just whatever appeals to me at the time. Carbs are good. As is small amounts of ginger ale sipped slowly. Anything overly sweet is a big no-no.

You'll start feeling better soon mama! Hang in there. :Hug

It's normal. I was in the same boat as you are now with my first child. The ONLY things that helped much at all (and not EVERY time or completely any of the times) were: ginger snap cookies with chocolate milk (no more milk for us... but I would definitely try to find someone to buy raw organic milk from if I had this problem again!), Chick-Fil-A, and peanut butter. Like I said, though, not a single one worked every time and sometimes, if they worked, it wasn't for long. But I was soooo THANKFUL for the little respite I was able to find here and there.

My problems magically dissipates right at 12 or 13 weeks! (Can't remember which, so I obviously wasn't dwelling on that issue too much when I found out I was preggie this time!) Oh, and NO TUMMY TROUBLES compared to last time!!! I still get sort of urpy if I don't eat frequently enough or don't eat enough protein. But it's DEFINITELY better this, my second time. Could be because I'm still nursing. Who knows!

Hope you feel better soon.

Me too. :( Nauseous pretty much all the time. And my gag reflex seems to have gone into overdrive, which isn't helping. I have been taking 100mg of B6 daily for almost two years, so I don't know if that's a surefire remedy.

Here are a few things that have helped me a bit:

Ginger/honey/lemon tea (just sliced fresh ginger, lemon juice, and a big spoonful of honey, with boiling water poured over)
Ginger candies from the chinese market
Cream cheese on pretty much any bread product you can think of
Cold water at hand all the time
