When I was pegnant with my first I never had braxtonhicks and never went into labor. I think according to my doc at the time he had started me a week early but I wonder about my due date and how accurate it was, I had switched midwife' s and numbers changed. In the end I was started on citotech, then pitocin, 17 1/2 hrs of labor, and E-C.S. But I am wondering I am now due May 19th with my 2nd and I have not felt anything as far as braxton hicks and I don't know if this is something that can determine weather you go into labor or not, or has any affect on my chances of having a vbac? Any advice and opinions would be appreciated.

With my first, I didn't have any BH contractions until late, around 38-39 weeks, and I barely noticed them. I don't think Braxton Hicks contractions have any relationship to labor or dilation, either. With my second pregnancy, I had BH contractions starting around week 18, but my labor was 20 hours (17 hours of early labor, dilating slowly), so I don't think all those weeks of contractions made much difference in my labor! I've never heard anyone relate BH contractions to VBAC success, so I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Good luck!

With my DD, I never had any BH at all. I never felt any contractions until I was actually in labor.

There is no reason to think that you would not have gone into labor on your own with your first baby. They all have to come out sometime! Due dates are a guess at best and many many women (including me) go past their due dates before going into labor.

I've never heard of any relationship between BH and going into labor or VBAC success, either. I'm with maureen - don't sweat it!!

Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and rest assured that your baby will come when it is ready. :)
