I know it seems way too early, but last time I did not have any frozen meals ready at all and now I think it was a big mistake!
So this time I am planning way ahead. Just planning for now. Thinking of making quite a bot of food so we don't have to eat out all the time after the baby is born.
We are thinking about buying a separate freezer so we can start freezing sesonal fruit and stuff so hopefully we'll have plenty of space for storage.
Anyone else thinking ahead already?

I guess I am thinking ahead in that I am planning to ask one of my friends to throw me a Fill-The-Freezer shower, where everyone brings a frozen or freezable dish instead of stuff. It hadn't occurred to me to cook ahead for myself, but I am sure ready to ask for help!:lol

I think it falls under the "nesting" category. I thought nesting didn't happen till right before the birth??
Well regardless of when it's supposed to happen, I'm nesting BIG time right NOW. :D Luckily, I don't have to worry about the food stuff (we have someone in our household that cooks/grocery shops) - - but if I did have to worry about it, I would soooo be doing what you're doing.
I've been going crazy getting a cloth dipe stash going. I didn't cd ds (insert regretful smilie here), so I know NOTHING about cd'ing. I've been slowly but surely educating myself, and buying what I think I might need. I swear, I've spent so many hours on the pc shopping/researching/begging for advice (on the dipe forums here) that my eyes have started to get all :nut on me. lol
My excuse for buying all the dipes so early in the game is that I live in Singapore (cd's are REALLY difficult to get here), so I have to have stuff shipped to my mom in the U.S. first, then she has to ship to me. So I need to start *earlier*. But the truth is probably closer to the fact that I just can't WAIT! :lol Once my dipes stash is set, I'll move on to the onesies and other clothing items....:wink

That is a great idea. My Mom actually does this for us. That is her gift to each of her children when we have a baby. She will come and cook and cook and cook and fill our freezers with enough dinners to last for 6 months!!! It is HEAVENLY! So, I've never had to worry about it. But, I think freezing or canning the seasonal stuff is very smart. If I had enough room in my little apartment, I would be doing it too! :)
Yes, we've been freezing things. We usually do that anyway (especially things like berries, which are so expensive to get out of season), but we're trying to get a good 2-3 months of meals in there. We have a pretty small freezer (it was the only one we could find that fit into our long skinny house through its narrow doorways) and we are actually looking at whether or not it makes sense to pick up another one, because this one is nearly full!

Anyone up for starting a "frozen recipe" thread? I have a standalone freezer and would LOVE to fill it up, but I make very few casserole-type dishes and wouldn't know where to begin. Only thing I ever freeze of that sort would be lasagna.

ksjhwkr - My mom comes after her grandchildren's births and cooks/cleans/ runs errands for a week or so. Unfortunately she lives about 10 hours away and that kind of fun can't last forever. That's when my MIL will (hopefully) take over. She's a true southern women (and lives only an hour away) who will cook a meal suitable for 30 people when only 5 are expected (that is absolutely NO exaggeration ... she cooks for armies). But, once this baby is born, I'm counting on army sized meals that I can freeze!
soapdiva - your frozen meal thread is fabulous! I don't do many casserole-type meals either. Most of the frozen meals I make are soup and pancakes and all of those can get real old, real fast!
Maria - DH and I have an upright freezer in addition to our regular fridge/freezer combo. Even though it has just been the 2 of us in the house, that extra freezer space has been wonderful. If there's a sale on frozen goods at the store, we stock up and don't have to worry about whether or not we have room. I'd definitely say it's worth the investment. Especially if you are planning on having a 2-3 month supply of frozen meals.
