DH and I are going to Hawaii in a month!! (I have a friend living there and all we have to pay for is the flight!) I didn't know how appropriate it is to wear a bikini and show off my belly. I find it cute, but I didn't know if I would gross out everyone else on the beach! Be honest, would you do it?

If I had a belly cute enough, I would TOTALLY do it!!! But, I wouldn't wear a bikini NOT pregnant! :lol I think you should go for it!!!!

If you'd normally wear a bikini when not pregnant, why not go for it? Pregnant bellies are beautiful, not gross.

OT: have you been to Hawaii before? If not, you will love it!! dh and I went a couple of years ago for a friend's wedding and I really liked it there.

Stepping in from August...

I wear a bikini when I'm not pregnant, so yes I will wear one this summer when I am. The caveat being, I am assuming here that I will look similar to what I did in my first pregnancy. If I have some crazy stretch marks or gain weight excessively then I won't. I want people to look at me and think "cute belly" not "oh my look at what terrible shape her poor pregnant belly is in!". :lol

Yes, I do wear a bikini when not PG. I'm not one of those stick-perfect-model-types, but more of an athletic-in-shape-type.

We haven't been there, but can't wait. I had a friend who went there for her honeymoon and the pics she brought back were beautiful. DH and I both really enjoy traveling and we figured this was the last chance we could take a big trip with just the 2 of us for a long time.

I want people to look at me and think "cute belly" not "oh my look at what terrible shape her poor pregnant belly is in!".
Hehehe! :lol Luckily I'll only be at the end of my 2nd trimester, so hopefully I won't look too much different from where I am now (just a little more preggers!).

That is me as well, and I fully intend on wearing a bikini in the summer.

Jumping over from August....I was just having this conversation with my husband yesterday. We are going to Hilton Head Island in May. I will be 27 weeks, I normally wear a bikini and have worn them during all my other pregnancies but, this is one part one the country that I have never been to and I am wondering if it is to conservative there? But I truly feel most comfortable with my belly uncovered, especially when it is very warm out!

Totally do it. What came to mind with me is looking at these pictures say 20 years from now. You will be so happy you did (dare I say while you still could? :lol ). I think the kids will be impressed too!

Yes I would! Maternity bathing suits are... not so attractive.

Dropping in from August DDC... my sweetie and I are going to Mexico in a couple of weeks and I already have a pg belly and I bought a tankini (midrift tank top/ bikini combo) that is non maternity. I think that is just conservative enough without being frumpy.

:nod Yep, at the very least I'll be sporting a shortish tankini, but probably a bikini. I have a loooong torso and can't ever seem to fine a one-piece suit that fits me right!

Ok, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this is ok. I also asked my DH and he said "of course you should!" Case settled! I'm packing my bikini!

I think it's totally okay. I went swimming in a string bikini the day before dd was born. Pg women are sexy and beautiful -I say flaunt it! :thumb

I wear one while fat so why not while pregnant -- LOL!

ABSOLUTELY! :thumb

I wore one in Australia (which is not a big deal - lots of pg mamas wear them there). But also, I live in conservative Singapore, and I wear one every day (that I'm) at the pool. If people are bothered by it, they can close their eyes. :D

While I'm pregnant is the ONLY time I'd wear a bikini, because otherwise my stomach looks downright scary. At least if it's big from growing a baby, it's "acceptable".

well I wouldn't because i normally wouldn't. But if it was something Iwould normally wear I totally would. by all means if you love your belly let it show! pregnant bellies are beautiful. not to mention it is a much more practical solution than a maternity suit.

How can people can be grossed out by a big pg belly?? if they are , they're nuts!!

It is very pretty! You can be proud of your big belly! Two years ago I was on the beach with DH and we saw a pg woman in bikini which seems to be around 5 months and that was really cute :love

Don't forget the sunscreen :thumb have a good holiday (how I wish I could go to the sun.... :blush )

I'm lurking but I had to reply, if you love how you look in the bikini, show off that belly with pride! I wouldn't, but I have body image issues. I would love to feel comfortable enough to do that.

Yay Laura, go for the bikini!
I'm sad I didn't have the chance to wear mine when I was in Florida last week. It was too chilly at the beach. But I plan to lounge in one in my backyard this summer. Neighbors be damned! :wink

Absolutely!!! In fact, we're headed to Maui in a month, too, and I can't wait to do some serious floating in the warm water there with my handy-dandy bikini. We also have a bizarre family tradition of taking a picture of our preggo bellies while wearing a bikini in our 9th month. Here's me one week before Hannah was born:

I'd wear whatever fits and is comfortable.:lol We are going to Chicago in two weeks and though we won't be hanging out on the beaches of Lake Michigan, we will be hanging out at the hotel pool with the three boys. I have one two piece (not sure if it qualifies as a bikini or not -- I think you have to have boobs to really buy a bikini:lol ) and a tankini and I'll wear both of them while we are there (well, not at the same time.)

I'm not sure what I'll wear this summer when I'm weeks away from delivery cause I'm not sure these will still fit, and I'm not spending money on a new swimsuit I'll wear for a month.

Stepping in from May:o

Our family went to a water park a few weeks ago, and I wore my bikini, I was 28 weeks. I'm not stick thin, but not huge either, and hubby thought it was pretty cute. although, I couldn't BELIEVE some of the looks on people's faces. And like DH said, I looked better pregnant than alot of women there did!!:lol

I just want to say I think preggo mamas in bikinis are cute! Last year at our local park pool I saw three mamas in one day sporting a bikini with big bellies.:) They were adorable. Go for it!

Go for it!! I am more of a tankini person, so that's what I would wear if I wear one this summer. The fact that you feel good in it is the only thing that matters.

i'd do it. actually, i recently ordered a bikini for when we open the pool for summer. with my last pg, i was in maui at 5.5 month, and i wore a maternity tankini, and i HATED it. the amount of material drove me nuts, and the thing felt heavy and constricting to me. then again, i usually wear bikinis, so maybe i just was out of my element.

anyway, go for it! it's quite comfy. just bring lots of sunscreen for your belly - even the slightest burn or sun-dried-ness will itch more than normally. ;)

have fun in hawaii!!!!!

well, i just got back from mexico and barely wore anything BUT my bikini--and i was not the only one! i saw a few other preggos in their bikinis and they looked great. and btw, i know tanning is not so trendy these days, but i LOVE having my belly a little tanned as it expands (i was starting to feel a bit like moby dick).

:nod Uh-huh. Every one piece I've ever found either digs into my shoulders or crawls up my butt. I figure that most people would find a wedgie much less attractive than a pregnant woman in a bikini. And for those who would have a problem with it--it's a belly. So it's round, what's the big deal? If I'm horribly uncomfortably hot in early March, there's no way I'm NOT wearing a bikini once summer hits!

Man, we are going to Rolando at the end of May and I have the same issue! I don't mind showing my bely - I have really smooth no strech marks skin, so I think my belly looks cute, BUT MY LEGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are getting thicker and thivker every day and it is scaring me!! How am I going to look like at the end of May? :lol I HAVE to find long skirt to cover the legs, and will leave the belly showing, don't care about that. But man, my legs are scary........:irked:

I live at the beach...it hadn't occurred to me until recently when I saw a post on another board about maternity swimsuits that there might be a reason NOT to wear a bikini. I have no plans to buy a maternity swimsuit--I think they all look pretty awful, but then again I don't like one-pieces (or things that look like one-pieces) anytime. (For recreational swimming, like at the beach--I do have a sporty, racer-back one-piece--nonmaternity--for swim workouts, but I'd never wear it to the beach.) So I say wear a bikini! I definitely will be in bikinis this year.
