My baby's hb was last seen 3 weeks ago and died probably right after that. I opted to wait for a natural m/c and the doctor actually suggested that to begin with. Now he is pushing a d&c because he is worried about disseminated intravascular coagulation, the clotting disorder that can develop if you go too long.

I have searched and searched for info on this in regards to miscarriage. Namely looking for at what point it becomes more of a risk. I did read that it rarely happens in early pregnancy loss but that was all, no other info.

That last US the baby measured 6w3d but I was actually about 8w3d. This was when a hb was seen. I found out when I was supposed to be 10w that the baby had died and it still measured 6w3d, hence why I figure it died shortly after that. I am now 11w and really really don't want a d&c if I can avoid it but info is so sparse on this clotting disorder that I cannot measure that risk. I really want to wait and let it happen naturally but not if it's going to put me more at risk then another option.

Anyone with any info????

i know many women have waiting a long time to m/c with no bad effects. i know that many choose to not have an u/s and so have no idea how long it has been since there was a hb. (i for one, but was not as far along as you) i think if you don't want a d&c you should not have one.

maybe there is something helpful on this site for you:

http://www.pregnancyloss.info/recently_miscarried.htm

i found it had good soild info and there is a forum there to ask more women your question.

hugs mama, i am so sorry for your loss.

I found out right around when the baby died (9wks) and after 2wks my midwife drew blood to check for that clotting disorder. The bloodwork came back fine so she said she wanted to see me weekly and would let me wait 4wks or maybe a little longer as long as the bloodwork still looked okay. So it seems to me if they give you weekly bloodtests to monitor you then waiting should be fine. If you read thru the still waiting thread you can hear about a few of us who all waited and recently m/c-ed. (((hugs))) to you!

It's too bad your doc is pushing for a D&C. My doc actually wanted to avoid doing a D&C because of the risk of infection/bleeding from a D&C. I have never heard about that clotting disorder. I wonder how common it is (?). Unless you are crazy about your doc, I would see someone else. Hope that helps.:Hug
P.S. My baby died around six weeks, and we found out at eight weeks. Two weeks after that I ended up taking inducing meds (for my sanity). It wasn't too bad at all. I'm sure it was better than a D&C! Maybe that is an option for you.

i did read about a woman on c-birth who's more than 20 week baby died, and she waited at least a month for her m/c. they are very hardcore over there about no intervention. she was fine (eventually) and felt she did the right thing by waiting. i don't think i could have done it, but she has her faith to help her though.

i don't know how far long she was, but i do know it was a stillbirth not a m/c.

Just my 2 cents...

In 2004 I M/C 12 weeks. It was in Sept. I thought I had passed the fetus. Some cramping, some bleeding. Had regular cycles (though a bit light) for the next 3 months and then in the middle of December I started hemmoraging (SP?). I ended up having an emergency D & C. I had no infection (which shocked the MWs. It was just a bit scary.

My point is...keep a close eye and be careful as far as waiting.
