Hey guys, want to do a zoo trip to Burnet Park Zoo? :)

Or anyone have a better idea of where we could all get together? I cleaned out my pm inbox BTW :)

Glad there are some of us still here!

I think the zoo sounds like a great idea -my lil monkeys would blend right in :LOL I"m open to other suggestions, I just can't think of any with my got-3-hours-sleep-head here.

What's everyone's schedules usually like? My dh's changes often (as he gets the car for work) but I'm sure I can wrangle something ;)

Ok, so are we going to the zoo or what?! How is someday next week for everyone? Bad days for me are Monday, Wednesday afternoon, and possibly Tuesday morning. Any other time is fine. Even if it is raining, they have a pretty extensive indoor exhibit.

hey ladies- I am hoping to go to the zoo Friday at 10 am, I hoped for it today too- but we all know how that went :eyesroll .

Anyone want to join me? I have a whole group- my 3 (ages 4, almost 3 and 6 months) and a boy I babysit- age 5.

Had planned for a beach day tomorrow, but that isn't going to happen either.

Should we try to plan a park day at one of the city parks? That's free and always fun, let me know.

Thursday we have gymnastics until 10:30 in East Syracuse, but could come after that to the beach. Wednesday looks good weather-wise too, how would that be for everyone?

What do you ladies think?

Oh- and CNY gymnastics, I like it for kinderkids (the class my dd is in) but I am certain that in a couple of years I will be looking for something else, they are a competitive place -there is a sign on the wall that says "Train Hard or Go Home!" :eyesroll I guess I am just more of a sports-for-fun type of person.

I finished my degree in biology shortly before I got pregnant, and am a SAHM to my son now (and I had to contend with hyperemesis during my preg, so I didn't work then). Last winter, I lived in a pretty rural area and the winter was pretty long and boring, but now that we live closer to Syracuse, I think this year will be better. (I won't have to brave a bunch of icy rural roads in order to get somewhere interesting!) And our area has groups for SAHMs like Mommy & Me and Mom's Club that provide various activities to do all year long. So, it's not so bad! This winter may be my last one here however, if dh finishes his degree this school year (04-05) like he keeps saying he's going to :)

First I'll get my dumb questions out of the way.. :eyesroll I'm new to this website and don't know what some of these acronyms mean - AP, DD, DH

I'm 4 months pregnant and am moving to Syracuse in a month. This will be my first baby. I'm looking for resources for pregnant women like prenatal fitness classes, and some recommendations for good doctors or midwives (I prefer midwife). What's the best hospital to deliver at. If anyone wants to share their knowledge of this city with me, I'd really appreciate it!

I'm looking forward to moving there! :thumb

Hi mamas! I grew up in Syracuse and we're planning to move back within the year. I'm applying to SUNY Upstate for cytotechnology. Hoping that one more year of college will make the first 5 years pay off, lol!
I'm so excited to see how many AP mamas there are in the area! I will definitely be posting once we're there so I can meet some of you. I haven't lived in NY for many years so I only know a couple of people there now and I'll definitely be looking for like-minded friends.

madd-
AP = attachment parenting
DD = dear (or darling?) daughter
DH = dear husband

I delivered at Community General (cgh.org they have a cute new arrivals page :) ), so I'd have to recommend that one, but if you're going to be living right in the city of Syracuse, there are several hospitals that will probably be closer to you, so you'll want to look into one of those... (can't help you there) I do recommend Community General if you're going to be in Marcellus/Camillus area, I had a great midwife/doctor team who got me through a *very* difficult pregnancy (dealing w/hyperemesis and on a PICC line for 1.5 months) and a pretty easy labor (short, no drugs needed!) Plus, since it is not right in the middle of the city, it is not crowded. They offer help to breastfeeding moms, and dh got his own cot right in our private room so he could stay overnight after I had the baby. The other hospitals probably offer these amenities too, I don't know. Since I was so sick and bedridden during my preg, can't help you with info on pregnancy fitness classes.

rado-
About our library system, you can go to http://www.ocpl.lib.ny.us/website/catalog.htm and electronically request an item from any library in Onondaga county to be sent to the Syracuse library closest to you. We are frequent library patrons, and always request items to our local library (Liverpool Library) this way. They have a lot of current movies you can request too (for instance, we're currently on the waiting list for Under the Tuscan Sun). I LOVE our local library, they do frequent storytimes for babies, with songs, and sometimes with the lady who runs it strumming a guitar. DH is bringing Falcon to a storytime today in fact. Lots of programs for older kids too.

My family doctor is in Marcellus, we love her, but it is a long drive from the city, so you'll probably want someone closer to you. (Still, we're going to stay with her since it's likely we're moving away in a year.) Mommy and Me sends out a monthly newsletter with planned trips (like to the zoo, various parks, beaches, tours of local places like a fire station, etc) so you can go hang out with other moms and the kids get to have fun too. Membership is about $20 a year I think.

madd

Thanks for the info falcon! I'll look into Community General. We're not in Syracuse, so the hospital doesn't have to be right in Syracuse. We live in Baldwinsville. Does CGH have good prenatal classes? I'm looking into hypnobirthing, so I wanted to find a hospital and doctor/midwife that would be supportive. If you have a good midwife, would you mind giving me her name? Thanks again! :)

Hello- I'm new to this post but have lived in the SYR area all my life. I have a great doctor/midwife practice that is very hypno friendly. I used them for my last two babies and really like them. The midwife in the group is super! PM me if you want the name and phone #. As far as hospitals go Saint Joes is the most breastfeeding friendly. They are moving towards becoming a "baby friendly hospital." They have a hospital birth center that is fantastic!!

Also I have a family doctor that is great too. He is pretty open to delaying vaccinations. He's in the Clay/Baldwinsville area.

For all of you new to the area there are two La Leche League groups here as well. The phone # is 1-877-279-8192. We share a hotline. When you call the toll-free number you will get a recording that lists the two on call leaders and their phone number.

Mommy & Me puts out a monthly calendar for thier members. There are several activities on it for each week, at least one or more per day. THere is an annual fee of $25 I think. I use to be a board member, so pm me if you want more information.

Hi Syracuse ladies, I'll be heading to Jamesville Beach today at around 11, we'll be playing at the beach, having lunch there and using the playground too. If anyone wants to meet me, Summer and Karin know me already- for anyone else, I'll be at the right side of the beach by the last lifeguard tower, I will have 4 kids with me, 2 boys, 1 girl and an infant boy who looks like a girl :wink , I'll be wearing the baby and pushing the junk in the stroller :LOL.

Summer- you wanted to hit the zoo this week? But not tomorrow, right? How are Thursday and Friday looking? I can do anytime after 10:30 on Thursday and anytime on Friday.

falcon
08-11-2004, 10:38 PM
Patty- I've got to get some errands done tomorrow before we take a long weekend at my mom's (leaving Friday morning) so next week? We went to the beach Monday, it was a little crowded, I think some mom's group was meeting there (Mom's Club maybe?)

madd- If you are in Baldwinsville, I'd go to St Joes, CGH is too far. Plus, I'm not sure about their position on hypnobirthing (I just did plain old lamaze breathing). What 2girlsmommmy said sounds great, just what you're looking for :) Baldwinsville is nice, you'll have to check out Lysander Town Park (a nice park for little kids I recently discovered); I think it's up that way

09-06-2004, 02:33 PM
Thanks falcon and 2girlsmommy for the info! I just checked this forum today - I've been busy with the move. I'm finally in Baldwinsville and absolutely love it! 2girlsmommy - I wanted to PM you for the midwife's phone number, but I don't know how :eyesroll I did find a midwife in the meantime, but I haven't met her yet. Over the phone she said she was willing to be supportive of my decision to hypnobirth. I went down to St. Jo's and think the hospital will work perfectly for me! They have a low-intervention birthplace, which is great!
falcon - We'll be sure to check out that park. My 1 and a half year old niece is coming to visit, so I'll take her down there!

Oh yes, any family doctor or pediatrician recommendations would be great as well.. we are just starting our search for a pediatrician now! So far we've heard good things about Dr. Terasaka and also about Child Health Associates in Liverpool. We haven't visited any of them yet though.

Hi all, my Mom's group is having a "new member" potluck lunch today at Lewis Park in Minoa from 11:30-1 if any of you want to come. It's not an "AP" group, but many of the moms lean our way ;) and they are all really nice, membership is free and we have tons of fun activities.

Hi everyone I'm in Syracuse too, near the university like you Rado, also a SAHM. Welcome! DD is 9 weeks old and im looking to meet some like minded moms too. We went to our first LLL meeting in August and are looking forward to going again 4th Monday of the month!

Madd- St. Joes is wondeful, or so I've heard. I delivered at Crouse and had an incredible experience, my doc and all the nurses were very supportive of my no-intervention requests. They have jacuzzis in all the rooms which were wonderful and Maya never left my side. My doctor was fine with whatever helped me get through she said all she wanted was us to be safe after that we could hang from the ceiling if it helps :D . If you're still looking, PM me and I'll give you her name and #.

We go to University Peds, Dr. Nguyen specifically, and i have found her to be very open minded she definately recognizes that babies grow and develop at different rates and she is very pro-breastfeeding and extended bf'ed her boys until they were 2. We have talked about vaxes and she seems to be openminded about that as well, she offers her opinion but isn't pushy, i think she is quite progressive as far as docs go. Congrats and welcome

rado- Dr. Beckmen is in the practice that my family goes to. She is also the doctor that my sil goes to. I don't really know much about her except that she is against chiropractor care. Dr. Rancier is who we see and we love him!

I just took my 12 week old to a parent child gym class at the YMCA. MAn did I feel like a freak! THe class was fun but the mommy interaction after was NOT!

2girlsmommy- was this at the new YMCA? I wanted to check it out, were the other moms more mainstream or what?

madd
09-09-2004, 06:04 PM
Thanks for the info PapayaMom! I think we're going to stick to St. Jo's for now. We went there over the weekend and really liked the birthplace they had. It's set up to be a low-intervention ward. They set up a separate class for you if you want to go there (instead of the regular maternity ward) adn after that class, another meeting to go over your birth plan. I thought that was really nice because me and my hubby were wondering how hospitals would handle being given a birth plan. They also have a very low nurse-to-patient ratio - almost 1:1!

I'll look into the pediatrician you mentioned. I appreciate the recommendation. It's tough finding new docs when you move into a new city and don't know anyone! It can be a bit overwhelming!

3girlsmommy
09-09-2004, 07:17 PM
2girlsmommy- was this at the new YMCA? I wanted to check it out, were the other moms more mainstream or what?
It's the North Area Y. Most moms that I have run into at the Y are way more mainstrem then I am. The new one in Fayetteville doesn't have the baby classes set up yet. I'm going to try the Yogibaby class at the Cicero Y that starts next Friday morning. If anyone else is interested it's at 10:30 and is $35 for memebers and $55 for non-members(I think). They also have a stroller fit class that is taught by the same person. I'm going to talk to her next week at the Yogibaby class and find out if it's ok if I do the class w/ my sling.

PapayaMom

madd- glad you found somewhere you like! i have heard such great things about the birth place! i too had a birth plan that was followed pretty specifically up until Maya's heartrate slowed then i listened to the docs, it was important to get her out asap as i progressed very quickly and she wasn't tolerating it well. bu still ended up with a non-med birth and little intervention.

2girlsmommy- how frustrating! its hard to find openminded people in syr i guess!

I'll post a link to my Mom's group, as I mentioned before, they are NOT an AP group, but a good many of the members I have met have AP leanings and a few I know are regulars at LLL.

It's www.eastsidemoms.org

So, Barry Park? I'll have to find that. Anyone else up for going there sometime soon weather permitting?

Peppermint- We're game for anything too, Barry Park is over near Westcott St. If you are familar with the area. I know a few people that go to the eastside moms group too, mostly of toddler age kids though.

Hey mamas,
Papayamom and I met up and were talking about getting us all together, as Peppermint had suggested. Barry Park? Anyone else up for meeting there early next week, say, Monday? Noonish? or earlier, say, 9 am?

No commitment, just might be fun to meet.

2girlsmommy - I am joining Fayetteville Y as soon as I can. Hope you're liking the Yogibaby class. What does it consist of? They told me the F Y baby/ mom classes should start around Octover. Anyone know how good their childcare is? And minimum age? DD is not ready yet, but I'm thinking ahead.

I've been lurking (and occasionally posting) on MDC for months now, and I've only just discovered the Syracuse thread! I'm so relieved to know that there are at least a few other AP mommas in this town... DH and I have met a few in real life, but we still see a distressing number of stroller-babies with bottles propped up whilst mom chats on the cell phone (no offence meant to stroller-users intended, but I have a big problem with propped bottles)...

Anyway-- DH and I live with 1 year-old DS and two wild cats in Syracuse in Tipperary Hill, a few blocks from the zoo. We just discovered that we'll be having another one (baby, not cat) in late Spring... Does anyone know of a good midwife in the area willing to deal with "high-risk" pregnancies? I was followed by the Perinatal Ctr. last time, but ended up being pretty dissatisfied with their constant interventions (though DS is happy and healthy, which is the important thing, after all). PM me if you have any recommedations, please, please, please! :)

Thanks, and nice to meet you all!

Hi! I love Tipp Hill :love, we attend St. Pat's Church there and wanted to live there but ended up in Strathmore.

Hey- since park gatherings seem to be out for weather concerns as of late- anyone want to meet up at the zoo sometime? Or- I could host a playgroup here sometime (so long as no one is offended by our plastic toys ;) , I mean we're AP/ and relatively NFL, but I don't think we're close to the "ideal"). What do you all think?

beansmommy

a zoo gathering/ playgroup would be lovely, if we could schedule for a weekend or afternoon... i work full-time outside the home (at least until #2 arrives) and have a hard time sometimes adding daytime play dates.

Hmmm... Katie- I'll have to think on that. Daytime is by far the best for me, and weekends are largely a no-go. The zoo closes at 4:30pm too. My dh will be setting up his volunteer schedule for his paramedic work soon- so he will be gone probably one evening/week- so- that could work, I'll let you know when he picks a night.

Dh really likes nights and weekends to be "family time" and we stretch it with me heading out for LLL and for my volunteer work Board meetings once/month and him doing the paramedic thing. Maybe at this point we could plan 1 or 2 evenings per month (either here or rotating places), and then make a weekly thing during the day? What does everyone else think? I have a zoo membership and try to get there once a week anyway (there is a lot to see inside even if the weather is bad).

Hi Everybody,

Can I join in on this planned outing. I am an AP mom in Liverpool and I already know beansmommy and 2 girlsmommy from LLL. My daughter Brooke is 18 months old. Would love to meet the rest of you.

Dawn

P.S. Also on the lookout for CP, measles & mumps :)

Dawn, dear

You're more than welcome on the outing, but only if we can join you guys in Pisa/Florence. Colin always loves to see his best girlfriend Tevea...

p.s. have a blast on your trip!

We'll be out of the country (in Italy) from next Monday until 11/20, so I hope I can join in on this later next month. Are we doing like a weekly or monthly get-together? Brooke loves the zoo. And Katie, Brooke will miss her boyfriend while we are away:)

[Oh my gosh, I was afraid this thread was dead! Peppermint, where did you go? I am so happy to hear that there are more AP mamas in SY and I also want to join the outing/playgroup. DD is 5 mos and I'm SAHM so can do daytimes, but not evenings or weekends so much either, as it's also prime time for me to see DH. I'm the one who just moved from Portland OR so am very much trying to meet folks...have been to a couple LL's too...
To mama looking for CP, measles, and mumps...how have you dealt with docs? I've tried two and have met such hideously unfriendly receptions to my skepticism re vaccination schedule that am now seeking friendly family practice doc....any recommendations? DD has had HIB vacc, that's it, and that's how I want to keep it for a while.

Ok (taking the bull by the horns) I hereby invite all on this thread to meet up at the zoo on Monday (Nov. 1st) at 10 am, if the weather stinks we can always just do the inside stuff. After that- we'll plan a evening get together at my house when dh is out doing his thing. What do you all say?

Please note here or via PM if you are coming so I don't end up alone ;) or stand anyone up.

Peppermint
10-28-2004, 07:26 PM
I will have 3 kids with me, one girl (age 4) one boy (age 3) and one baby boy who looks like a mighty pretty girl, he'll be in a very colorful Maya Wrap. I am average height and weight with brownish redish (if I color it between now and then ;) ) hair. I'll be just inside the door.

See you there! (you can give me a descrpition of you if you like)

Hi Everybody,

Sadly we won't be able to make it Monday as we get on a plane to go to Italy for three weeks. I really want to get together with all of you, so I hope we can plan on something after Thanksgiving.

Rado, I have not vaccinated my daughter Brooke at all and I have a wonderful family care doctor (Joseph Cambareri) who, although not in total agreement with my decision, is respectful and very supportive of breastfeeding, cosleeping, AP, etc. I do use a naturopath out of rochester for most of Brooke's and the rest of the family's needs - he has cured a yeast infection without Nystatin, constipation, cradle cap, and some other things as well. My goal is to raise Brooke w/o antibiotics, vaccines, tylenol, etc - so far, so good. Feel free to e-mail me at dsauchelli@juno.com if you'd like to talk more about the vaccination issue as I have a lot to say on that. But back to doctors, I have met the same resistance with the big pediatric practices in town. I can fill you in further, but I think a family care doc may be more receptive to your views.

I will have access to e-mail in Italy, so I hope to keep in touch on this thread from there.

Caio,
Dawn

Rado- Can we switch zoo day to Tuesday? I have something else going on tomorrow, so if we could switch that would be much more convenient for me. Please PM me or e-mail me to let me know if you got this message, as I will be out of town, and only going to come back if I don't hear from you, b/c I don't want to stand you up. I am going to try the cell phone # you gave back in the thread a bit, hoping that still works.

Anybody else going to join us?

SNOW! :angry

Anywho- anybody want to try for the zoo again somtime this week? OR- my Mom's group sometimes gets together at the airport, I guess there is a nice play area there between the terminals? I have never been there but we could try that, AFAIK the only cost is for parking.

falcon
01-04-2005, 02:32 PM
The zoo would be nice (I have a zoo membership that only got used twice since Halloween!) I can do this Thurs or Fri morning, let me know if there is a time that would work best for you. I haven't been to the airport playground yet either, but I'd be interested in trying it out if you think there's stuff a walking/running 17 month old could do. Afternoons don't work out as well for me since Falcon typically naps from 1-3. (or 2-4 on days when he sleeps in, like today!) So the best times for us to do outings are before noon (so we'll be back by naptime) or anytime from about 4-6pm (since dh gets home at about 6).

Peppermint
01-04-2005, 02:38 PM
Well, Thursday morning we were planning to go to the Betts Branch library in the Valley for story time, so- Friday morning would work well for the zoo. Afternoons are rough for me too, as I leave here at 2:30 to get the boy I babysit and then I have him until 5:30. I *could* bring him along, but it would be like 4-ish before we could get to the airport.

So- Summer- do you want to try Friday at 10 for the zoo? I won't stand you up this time :blush . Anyone else want to join us?

And-2girlsmommy- can you do mornings ever? Or can you think of an afternoon you'd like to plan for next week (after 4)? I am only tied up on Wednesday in the afternoon.

I can do mornings but I have to be back home by 11:45 at the latest to get my oldest off the bus. So I could do the airport friday morning but I can't do the zoo because it's too far away.

Peppermint
01-04-2005, 03:59 PM
Summer- it's up to you then, I can do either one on Friday- actually either one any day so long as weather permits. I could do the zoo Friday with Summer and we could all plan for the airport on Monday or something, or if Summer wants we could all just do the airport on Friday. I know there is a fee for parking, but that's it. Can someone tell me how to get there, I have never been there- just PM me if you can, or put the directions here, who cares right? :wink

Ok, we can do the airport Friday morning. 10am? Is the airport large, or will this be easy to find? (I've mostly been in very large airports, LAX, Atlanta... so I'm a little worried about getting lost) You can get driving directions to Hancock airport from your house at maps.yahoo.com for the airport address, enter:

Peppermint

3girlsmommy
01-05-2005, 03:34 PM
The playground in smack dab in the middle. THere are a bunch of airline check in places and baggage return on both ends of the airport and then in the middle is the car rental places, the gift shop and the playgound. I might have another mama come w/ me that soemtimes visits here. I don't know how much parking is. THe web site said that it's $6.50 for the outdoor lot and $8.00 for the indoor lot per 24 hour period. I would guess around $3 or $4 dollars for an hour to an hour and a half.

pm me if anyone needs directions.

Hello!

I'm finally deciding to jump in after following this thread for months. I know 3girlsmommy from LLL, but that group is about the extent of my like-minded mommy peer group and I'd love to meet some more people.

So, for a quick intro... I am married to a wonderful husband, Adam, and am the mother of two beautiful girls - Emma, who's 2.5 yo, and Sadie who just turned 3 months. I had a homebirth with Sadie and consider myself an aspiring midwife, though that dream's a long ways off. The first steps for me are nursing school, which I am pursuing and spending my days reading about birth and being frustrated with the current climate for midwifery and birth in this state (on that note, a homebirth circle is starting up in Syracuse, if anyone's interested check out http://homebirth.meetup.com/61/ ). Currently, I work as a software engineer and am returning to work next week after a glorious 4 month maternity leave. Thankfully, I'm only returning to work part-time and will have Thursdays and Fridays off to spend with my girls.

I'm definitely in if you guys decide to get together later next week...

3girlsmommy
01-13-2005, 08:16 PM

We've got Kindermusik Wed, I'm having a mommy&me playgroup at our library on Thurs, and we're going to My Gym Friday, so the end of next week is really busy for us! Maybe we'll be able to get together the following week... If anyone wants to join us at Kindermusik, email me for details (it's a free activity Salina Free Library does about once per month).

Hi Megan!

Summer- I would have liked to have joined you today, but boy is it cold!

So- I won't be coming for the zoo today either, it's just too cold and I have the boy I babysit as schools are closed.

I hope we can all get together sometime soon. How is next week looking for everyone? We could do the airport playground again, or keep on trying for the zoo. :)

3girlsmommy

I've got to get to the zoo! We're going Thursday, because Mon I have a Mommy&Me commitment, Tues playgroup, Wed Chuck e Cheese, Fri GC2. Maybe we can work out a time after (or before?) your Thurs storytime Patty. Let me know. I like to have an activity to do with Falcon each day, staying in day after day gets very boring! We'll go out in the cold, just not icy/blizzardy conditions.

Also, if anyone wants to meet me at Chuck E Cheese Wed, email me and we'll set up a time to meet. The Mingling Moms group I'm in is going that day, but I need to go a little earlier so as not to interfere with Falcon's nap. I find that it doesn't cost that much $$$ in tokens, since my toddler seems to enjoy non-token stuff (like the slide and the mouse statue) the best.

Hey everyone! Hope you are all reasonably dug out of the snow!

I have been doing a serious amount of thinking lately about starting an AP-moms group. I know there are some other moms groups out there that do some great stuff and perhaps we don't need to reinvent the wheel here, but I thought it would be a nice sense of community and a great place for support if we had our own group with the basic tenets of AP being at the core.

Just thought I would throw it out there to see if there was any interest.

Hey all...after a long hiatus, I'm back. Peppermint, so sorry we didn't connect. I kinda dropped off the face of the planet over the holidays, and with my grad student husband at home, I've been cocooned with he and dd.
Count me in for the group. Seems like with everyone's crazy schedules that pinning down a good time will be the challenge. But it wll be easier than trying to constantly find times that work for each and every meeting. It would be truly great to finally get us all together. May I suggest that we meet for coffee sometime in the next week? Sometime, say, around noon?
I just moved here in August but I think there's a new coffee place near DeWitt? perhaps we could brainstorm a little. Hey, if we form a neato AP group, maybe we could start staging nurse-ins and the like, as needed, here in CNY.
Glad that this thread is still going!!!
and welcome, Megan. I'm going to check out your HB site. I share your interest in midwifery and hope for an HB next time.
Thanks for taking the bull by the horns, PapayaMom.

I was thinking that we should all e-mail Papaya Mom with our times and days, and then she'll be able to make a master list. I'd be happy to help you out with organizing things Papaya Mom, just LMK.

I live in Strathmore, which is on the West/ South west side of the city, my house is not very big, but I'd be happy to host a group here sometime. Coffee house get togethers are kind of out for me, I have an almost 5 yo, a 3 yo and a 1 yo, they aren't really the coffee house types :LOL.

I'd love to start weekly park dates when the weather is good, but in the meantime, we could use my house, the airport playground, the zoo, etc. If we get enough people, we might be able to get a Church playroom or something.

3girlsmommy
01-26-2005, 07:55 AM

oh I am so pleased with the response. I am in the middle of figuring out what would work for the most people.

If everyone could email me some info it would be great

Name
names and birthdays of your kids
email address

this way i can get a whole list together and send out emails and such. I think it would also be nice to have a directory of sorts so we can contact eachother should we need to. So once I get all that info I will sned it along to everyone and we can get things rolling. Also if there are any other AP moms that you know of not on MDC please invite them along too.

ok so far Fridays late mornings seem to work for everyone. Let me know if I am wrong on that. Also if there is anyone who hasn't sent along their info again my email starla164@aol.com

So i was thinking of a twice monthly group. One get together can be at someones house, the idea of a putluck lunch was suggested, which sounds great. The other can be out someplace like to zoo or parks when it gets warmer.

I would be happy to host our first get together next week, since I just have my one babe those of you with bigger kids might want to bring along some entertainment coloring books etc. I have a few things but I dont want the kids getting bored.

I think it would be great if we could talk about our hopes for the group and maybe share anything insightful we have read lately about parenting. Nothing too structured of course but AP is at the center of the group.

Again if anyone has any friends who are AP but not online feel free to invite them along too.

I'll send an email to everyone with contact info and directions.

Good Morning Syracuse!

I was just led to this site via an online friend and am stunned and really excited to see other AP families in the immediate area. We live out towards Marcellus.

My name is Cheryl - married, with a DS born 8/25/03. (that makes him almost 20 MO right now) I am currently 5+mo pregnant. I negotiated to work only 3 days OTH each week, and get to spend each Wed and Thursday with my son.

We have a huge family bed. I continue to nurse, and plan to have another non-medical labor & delivery with this little one. Tandem nursing looks like the way we will go. And I struggle with concerns about vax-ing.

As it continues to get warmer and more beautiful outside, I'd love to meet up with some of you to hang out and introduce our AP'd children. Have you all met? Fridays are not an option for me, but maybe there are other compatible times to hang out?

I have not done MYGym with Adam, but would be interested in checking it out since my son is definitely an active climber-type. :)

So...are you Syracuse mom's still around????

I'm Megan... mom to two girls, almost 3 and 6 months. I work three days a week OTH, too (For the life of me, I couldn't figure out what OTH meant until I went to write "outside the home") :) Homebirther, birth junkie pursuing my doula cert, HUGE sling/carrier collector, CD addict...

Looking forward to meeting you sometime!

Hi everybody,

I haven't been on this site for a LONG WHILE! But, I know Sandi and bunnybartlett and just met Cheryl. Was wondering if you all still do playgroups? My daughter is almost 2 1/2 and I stay at home with her. She loves library storytimes and anything outdoors (except I'm prretty bent on not not taking her to the zoo since the Kedar fiasco). But I'd love to meet other like minded moms in the area. I keep running into people that want me to leave my daughter with a sitter and go out without her. People don't get it that for the most part, I really enjoy hanging out with my kid! Anyway, please let me know if we can come to a playgroup soon.

Hi Dawn..

I work from home so I don't meet other moms myself. My friends in my hometown were the type that would insist I bring my baby, so I miss that type of thinking! But I know a lot of people feel like it's not fun if you have to include a baby on an outing.

One of the women in this discussion group has a playgroup - PapayaMom - so you can try sending her a message. I haven't gone yet cuz I've been out of town but I plan on going. Those are in the afternoon. If anyone wants to have one later in the day (like late afternoon/early evening), that would be great for me since I wouldn't have to go on a lunchbreak. Although I still plan on going to the afternoon ones as well.

Also, if anyone knows of any mommy/baby exercise classes, I would LOVE that. I still need to get back into pre-pregnancy shape :(

Sandi -

Yeah, its with Chris, or through her group at least. Her partner is the trainer, but Chris handled the registration and such. I'm really excited to meet them both after all the rave reviews I've heard about them.
Megan, I have to ask...by chance were you an assistant doula at a birth at St. Joes birth place on 5/5/05 with Chris??

Hi, Danielle!!

Yes, that was me... I thought those names looked familiar!

And no, don't worry... No stories. I'm just the only 'Megan' that has been with Doulas of CNY.

Glad to see you on here... How's your sweet little boy? Or boys, I should say. :)

Megan, they are doing great! Hunter is the typical 2 1/2 year old, thinking he can brave anything! It's such a great age though!
Jackson is getting so big!! Almost 5 months old and exclusively bf. He is my little chunky baby!!
I am so glad to have found this group! I swear I was the only AP mama in Syracuse!!

I just signed on to this site and found this thread--don't know if people are still out there... My husband and I just moved up here last week (Manlius) from the Philly area with our 5 mo old daughter. I don't know that I'd formally consider us APers, but we are delaying vax's, partly co-sleeping, and have been exclusively breastfeeding up until a couple of weeks ago when she began grabbing any food in sight!
Right now I'm concerned with finding a pediatrician for her, but don't know how to go about finding one that won't balk at our vacc beliefs and desire to also pursue other types of healthcare (chiropractics/homeopathy, etc.).

Kelly- Welcome! Good luck on the pediatrician issue, we have yet to find one who is *truly* ok with vax issues.

You can PM Tracy- papayamom? for info. on our playgroup/yahoo group.

Hey all...we're finally settling into our new home in Syracuse. Next up on my list, is to find a good pediatrician. We generally delay vaccinations ourselves and would love to find a ped that won't harrass us about our choice. Our ped in Cortland was awesome in this respect. I could always ask him for a referral, but I'd love to hear from some actual parents of patients. Professional referrals are nice, but there is nothing like the perspective of a parent!

I was in Pheonix. Dave and I did discuss Tipp Hill though and my best friend is living there now to boot. Dave is pretty much all Irish ancestry, so there you have it. I'm a country girl though. And not too sure about the city public school systems but still not sure if I want to homeschool or not. We threw out Camillus, beautiful there but too much money. Elbridge, Dh says blah no :lol. Not keen on anywhere in Cayuga county at all...Oswego county is mostly boonies. The city of Oswego is nice but omg the brunt of snowstorms would fall upon us and the rent is high there too I think.

I'm so sorry I'm thinking out loud! :blush

I want something shady with trees, cheapish, and pedestrian friendly. Sigh. Dh needs to secure a job first.

Dh is leaving with 7yo on the 29th with a friend and most of our stuff. I'll be there with 5 yo, 3 yo and 1 yo by the 2nd. Then Dh going to drop off 7yo at where we'll be staying for a week or so, go back down here, pick up whatever I couldn't fit and make sure the t's are crossed and the i's are dotted, get our car and come back.

:dizzy:

Then we have to work on finding a place to live. :nut At least we won't be without shelter. We're also thinking of making a camping trip out of the deal too, because since Dh and I have been together (almost 9 years) we've never been camping and we both used to love to camp as kids.

Dh fell through the cracks at the job he came up here for, but he has an interview tomorrow for new place, and I'll be job hunting myself once I know what his hours are going to be (as we'll have to swing shifts).

But we had a very blessed Thanksgiving and we're hanging in there :nut

I think we discussed once, when we were living in Wisconsin, about getting together on one of our trips east to visit my family in PA, but then you moved to NC. (We moved to Cortland in 2005, and then to Syracuse last spring.)

Hi Carla!

Yep we made it back to CNY last summer. I'm happy to be back "home" but it's still been a tough way to go for us. Right now we are in Oswego and it is so family friendly here I love it. Sidewalks to walk everywhere, lots of parks to go to and they have fountains running in the warm months and the neighbors for the most part have been very friendly.

Good to "see" you again!

Well we will definitely need to find time this summer to get together. We've lived here for over a year already and have yet to make it any further north than Clay!
I understand the rough go of it. Central New York has not been kind to us since we got here. We've been tempted many times to just go back to Madison Wisconsin (the most wonderful, fantastic, beautiful city in all the country) But we're sticking it out. We're not going to let the few crappy people in CNY that we've encountered ruin it for us ;) That isn't to say we actually like it here - we don't. But we have some fabulous friends here, and my family is only a 2 hour car ride away.

Hello ladies, I am new to CNY, just looking to meet other a/p mamas at green lakes beach, the zoo, or ??? during the weekdays for chit chat and/or walks. (I work mostly on the weekends.) My babe is only 3 months so not so much playing with other kids yet, more for me! Please, feel free to pm me.

My mom lives on Oneida Lake, so we spend a lot of time down there. I can't imagine not being able to do that. Plus I love our summers here - they are so incredibly green!

Plus I love our summers here - they are so incredibly green! we used to live in Cicero and my husband grew up near Buffalo and was always at the beach, so being without water nearby was challenging at first.but people really do learn too adjust:D and will be looking forward to vacationing in NY in the future all my IL's live in the Buffalo area.
