Wow wow wow! My sister (10 yrs younger, 24) just had her third baby yesterday. Her name is Audrey Meadow, and she's beautiful.
She was born at home into the water, right into my sister's hands. She caught her own baby with no one touching her or going anywhere near her in the tub. It was just completely freaking awesome. I'm going to stop but I could gush on and on...

Congratulations Amy, to your sister and her spectacular homebirth on her terms. And welcome to the world her sweet little one:love
Are you her inspiration? Or was it just a really good mother?

That's so awesome. That's what I want - another waterbirth only this time I'd like to be a little more aware of what's going on. My last labor was so fast, I was totally engrossed in what I was doing, and when my midwife said "reach down and pick up your baby" I just said "I can't I'm busy."
Sounds beautiful! I'm so ready to skip ahead to the end :bag:

jessica, lol, this is the case for my sister AND me with our previous births. By the last contractions, we were really consumed with the intensity/pain. The births were all very beautiful, but we both decided that this time (the last baby for both of us) we want to be more *present* at the end of birth, feel the baby come out, catch our own babies completely.
I think, if I can't do that, at least I will birth the baby onto a towel and still pick him up myself when I come around.
I'm just so happy for her that she felt her birth the way she wanted to feel it. Her baby was born SO gently, sweetly.
Kirstie, I think my sister is a born birther - she is so awesome at it. I think I probably had something to do with her homebirthing, and general AP attitude (she as at my first homebirth in 97 when she was 15ish), but I think she'd be doing natural birth regardless of me - she hates the idea of an epidural ;)

Wow! Congratulations on your little niece! That's great that the two of you share the same philosophy on birth and raising children. I'm kinda the lone crazy lady in my DH's family (my family lives a decent distance away, and I'm the oldest and still the only one with kids), but I'm inviting SIL to attend Nate's water birth at the birth center (it's all but official now, going to an open house on Tuesday) because I like her and want her to be there, but also because she recently got married and I'm hoping to subtly influence her without being pushy.
Give my congrats to your sister. What a wonderful birth experience!

update!
I jumped the gun on the middle name. Sparrow was the choice all these months, but they've gone with Audrey Meadow.
