Personally, I wouldn't. That's a lot of chemicals to be using when pg. Can you use henna instead?

I second the henna. You can get it at most natural foods stores. I would definitely avoid conventional dyeing while pregnant.

You can also find henna at some international foods stores. :) That's where I found mine.

You may want to be cautious with henna if you are a routine hair dyer. My mother, who is a hair stylist, always warned me that there is some kind of mineral or *something* in henna that may not react well with chemically processed hair.

I have heard that there is no problem dying hair in the latter months of pregnancy. I just had my hair highlighted, but thats a little different since the bleach doesn't really touch the scalp if you use foils. I think that if it makes you feel better than go for it. You can get hair dyes that are more gentle now a days such as Aveda, which is almost 100% natural plant derived dye.

I'd steer clear. I was about five months pregnant with DS1 when I married DH, and dyed my hair, something I'd been doing since I was a sophomore in high school, the day before we started our honeymoon. It was the same blonde dye I'd used for ages.

Bright. Orange.

I highlighted during my first two pregnancies which is safer than all over dying. I would probably avoid all over dying unless you REALLY want to, but authorities (whoever they are) say it is ok, but to avoid in first trimester. I am skipping all of the chemicals this pregnancy. Maybe some henna later on.

I would stay away from henna if you have dye in your hair. There are minerals in it that can turn your hair strange colors. Unless you're into the punk look, don't do henna. They say it's ok, but to do it every eight weeks instead of every four. I still color my hair with a gentle at home product. I do it every 10-12 weeks, so I figure by the end it will only be three times, rather than nine. They are better than salon products as far as the strength of the chemicals. Also, you avoid the other lovely salon aromas, like bleach, perms and chemicals used in doing fake nails. Yuck!

I've always liked Henna dyes because it looks much more natural, and doesn't do permament damage. I've only had a problem once, and I know exactly what I did wrong... when they say don't use metal anything with henna, THEY MEAN IT! At least the green highlights faded within a couple of weeks leaving just the black I was going for--thank goodness.

It may also react with the chemicals from previous chemical dyes, but you can start by testing one patch of hair near the neck.

However, if you have nut allergies, watch out for some of the black/brown hennas and all natural hair dyes that will use walnut in their products.

I used a semi permanent in my second trimester last pregnancy & it was also orange instead of the blond it usually was. Hair can do tricky things in pregnancy so I would stay away from it. I don't think it is harmful, just don't go with permanent. I just think the color might come out different. Do a test first!

I looked into it too and decided to highlight. (Which was what I'd been doing all along.) Henna's not an option for me b/c I've already got the highlights...I have waited longer than usual to get it done, probably as much due to the fact that I'm cheap as to the fact that I'm pregnant! :lol I really must make an appointment.

Sneaking in from the June DDC (though with as late as I'm due, I MIGHT be July anyway!)

I just got my hair foiled a month ago, and it turned out fine. I wouldn't do anything that touches the scalp, which foils don't, so all is well. Oh, and the color took fine; then again, it was only a couple shades lighter than my natural anyway.

I say go for it - I feel lousy this pregnancy, and the haircut and color really perked me up!!

Please use caution when using anything other than natural henna. Many of the "black" henna dyes have high concetrations of PPD in them and that can be very dangerous!
