Dh and myself really like it - giddy for a short baby name.

My parents / cousin hate it - reminds them of thin old men - but to me its a strong name.

What do you think of when you hear the name? I don't want to give my son an terrible name.

By the way our last name is Dore - To me Gideon Dore - sounds like an actor.

Our ds is calles thayen so i can't have a too normal name for dc2.

Mmmmmm, Gideon has a negative feeling for me because it is attached to a very evangelistic christian group. But, thats not to say anyone else would think of that. In and of itself it is a cute name!

It is a very biblical name - and i am not religous. dh parents are christian, i should ask them if they like it!
at least i'll be home schooling so he wont be teased by school kids.

I don't even know if i'm having a boy yet :lol

Thinking again, theres an Mtv dj named Gideon Yago and I've always thought he was cool. Also if you're looking for a nickname besides Giddy, you could use Eon which I think is THE BOMB! So I change my mind, I love it! Are you finding out ahead of time what the gender is or on the birthday?

All I think about is the Gideon bible people! I'd never considered it as a name before. Without that connotation, I do think it's a very strong male name.

I like it. It isn't a name I would use, but it is a nice strong name. And really, it only matters if you like it. I just found out that someone in my family didn't like the name Seth until after he was born and got to know him. But honestly, it wouldn't have made one bit of difference to me, I like the name, he's my son, so that is all that matters! :)

I know i should choose something i like but my family are very judgemental - my uncle thinks its a sin that thayen is called thayen... my uncle was christened beverly - which has turned into a girls name, so i guess he knows what its like to have a bad name. but you are right people will learn to love it..

Gideon it is then - well until i change my mind yet again.
now i've got to think of a girls name....
hopefully we find out next thursday.

I love the name Gideon. We considered it for a boy, but we don't need a boy's name , we're having a GIRL! Yay! Anyway, It's the name of a character on the show Criminal Minds. Not sure if it's his first name or last name. But after hearing itt several times one on night on the show, I asked dh and he said it's a great name. I think so too. Also, it is hard when your family pushes their opinions on you but you have to say the name 400 times a day so you should be the one who likes it. I have a nephew named Davin(said like Gavin) and a niece named Zailey. None of us really likes these names beforehand (but were polite enough to keep our opinions to ourselves) and once they were born , the names just seemed to fit. Go with your heart, you'll pick the right name for you baby.

That's what i thought of too- and his coworked named his baby boy Gideon.

I like it a lot. Very strong name. Very masculine i think.

I like it too! :) I just read a series of books about Amish country and there was a character named Gideon who was always called Gid. I thought it was nice. In my experience, you will get flak no matter *what* you name your baby...my inlaws thought "Gabriel" was "too religious" (they also think I've brainwashed and stolen their son so what can you do) and when dh called them in the uk to tell him that Gabe was born, dfil said "Oh, you went with that name then?" !!!

My family think Philippa/Pippa for short is a weird name because no one here is named that but everyone on dh's side of the family thinks it's lovely, becaue they've heard it before.

What can you do? :flipped Go with the name you like in your family.
