I'm not necessarily against weight gain while pg (it IS purposeful) but I have been on a role! I don't even know what to think! I usually loose at the start, take forever to start gaining and then do it slowly and then spike at the end (or that's how it's worked the last two pg).

This time I lost 7lb with the m/s I was having and then gained that back (and two more) by 13w. The past two weeks I've gained TEN pounds! TEN! Oh my gosh!

Has anyone else had such a weight spike? Is that bad at all? I'm unsure how I'm going to gain the rest of the time with this kind of a start. Yikes...

So, you're up 12 total - that sounds reasonable to me. Sure, 10lbs does sound like a lot - but baby does have a growth spurt around now (16-19 weeks, I think.)

As long as bp, urine, etc are fine - then I would just see what happens next month. No worries :)

I had a weight gain like that with ds in the 2nd tri.

I think it's great! Your body must need it! As long as you aren't noticing any swelling/puffiness or dark urine and just think it's from eating then great, way to grow a baby :)

I haven't checked my bp or urine but I probably should sometime soon. I had pre-e with my firstborn and I don't feel any symptoms of that so that's good...

I'll see how the next few weeks go... thanks for the assurance!

You sound like me! I gained 9 (NINE!) pounds in two weeks (between 14 and 16 weeks)....which brings my total weight gain to 20 (TWENTY!!) pounds! I just keep reassuring myself that all is well though, my pre-preggo weight was low (115 lbs), so I had some gaining to do....obviously :lol My midwife isn't at all bothered by the sudden increase, and all other vitals look good still.

Your body knows what it needs, your body knows what it needs, your body knows what it needs........

I have gained 8 pounds to date. Last pregnancy I had gained 30 pounds by now for a wooping 68 poinds all together. I got it all off but 15 b/f gettingegnant again. I am not really doing anything different either. Both times I eat healthy. I do have insulin issues though (pcos) I don't think your wieght gain is high.

I spiked like that a couple of times during the second trimester with my DD. I'd go months with no gain, then double digit gains. It didn't seem to relate to my eating. :scratch

I've put on a bit during the past couple of weeks as well. As long as you're eating good, healthy foods (most of the time :wink), I wouldn't stress.

I've gained a total of 20 # also. I'm 18 weeks along. I feel fine. I figure I'll gain 40-45 # total. My gain has been more steady, but perhaps you had some to make up.

Hope you feel better reading this!

I need to get on the scale I guess. Eek!
But I always have a spike of 10 pounds in 3 weeks time during the 5th month. Nothing I do differently during that time, but that's how it went the first two times, so we'll soon see!

Amen!!

We don't have one at the house, never have. When I go for my appointments I get an update on my weight, and that's enough info for me!

It wasn't the scale at my house (though we do have one, I can't even remember the last time I stepped on it) - I think knowing sometimes isn't a bad thing - I don't normally panic so it has never (in two full pg) been a problem - - information isn't the problem, it's what you do with it that matters.

It doesn't matter what you gain, just what you eat. Your body knows what is best for you and baby. Have you heard of Dr. Brewer's diet? www.blueribbonbaby.org. I'd read up on it and follow it if you aren't following it already!

Usually I feel better enough by now to follow a healthy vegan version of the Brewer Diet, at least later in pregnancy when the extra protein becomes more important; the excessive saturated fat and cholesterol of the Brewer Diet doesn't seem the greatest to me, but I'm sure for many people it's healthier than a fast food typical american diet. It's too bad more doctors don't discuss nutrition the way most midwives do.
We'll see what I can eat as time goes on. Right now I still have aversions to SO many of my regular foods it drives me crazy!

I just stepped on the scale right before I read this and I've gained about 15Lbs total. It makes me cringe! It was the first time I stepped on it in over a month, besides MW appts and I didn't like what I saw.

I gained about 50 with the other 2, so I am okay. I just don't want to "go there" again. Not that I specifically worry, but THAT much weight makes me feel awful during the summer... both were August babies, too.

Also, I need to walk and do yoga more. Trying to work from home and chase after a 2 year old and a 4 year old honestly does not give me the energy to get out and exercise, but now I am going to. Nothing that I didn't do before pg, so I am used to it. This isn't just b/c of weight gain. I am about to post about vein issues... that's what's spurring my need to move.

Take care~
Lisa
