Hi all! I'm mostly a lurker here on the forum but I'm kind of stuck in a situation I'm not sure what to do about now. I'm 28 weeks and my midwives say I have extra amniotic fluid, polyhydramnios. They want me to get an u/s to rule out any problems with the baby which may need emergency surgery at birth. But, they don't have any really good connections into mainstream docs that can do this without a whole lota mess. They have a connection at the local hospital that can do one but say I'll get pressured into a bunch of tests that I haven't gotten since we are hbing.

They have one doc rec for me who actually does hbing but i'm not sure what she's all about or know anything about her. They suggested I can see the OB's who delivered my first dd, this is my third preg, but say I'll have the same pressure for tests etc. So my best option is this unknown doc?

I'm trying not to look any further than day by day with this and also altering my diet along with homeopathic things. But I just don't know what to do about the u/s? Has anyone had experience in needing something that is out of the hb realm? I'm so upset as I don't want to talk to ANY docs! I want my midwives!!!!!!! But they seem to think it's a good idea.

what can i do? and should i tell a doc that is very mainstream I'm coming from a homebirth midwife? any advice would be great. thanks so much.

I had a friend who had that. She had an us which chowed everything normal. She was wondering about twins she was so huge :lol

She went on to have a 10 healthy baby with a mw.

I would get the ultrasound with the unknown doc. You don't have to say who your provider is, or that you are hb'ing if you are uncomfortable. Just say matter of factly that your provider suggested that you meet with him/her for this test and leave it at that. If they pressure you for other tests, you can tell them that you are here for this ONE thing. If more is deemed necessary you will discuss your options with your primary provider and get back to them. If you discuss with your MW and decide that the other tests are not VITAL, you don't have to even touch base with the doc if you don't want to. I would just make sure to tell them (the ob's office) that you will be taking a copy of all records with you, so please make an extra copy.

Good luck.

Call your OB office, the one who delviered your other two. tell them you need to make an ultrasound appt. I have never had a problem just getting an ultrasound. If they insist you need to see the doctor after, then make that appt too, and skip it.

Thanks so much ladies for your input. I can't say how much I appreciate it. I opted to go down the list, then go on to the next option if the first said no etc. So I contacted my original OB who I had my first dd with and was with most of my second pregnancy until I switched to hb. I luckily picked the only one of 6 drs that we liked, luckily he was there, the nurse talked to him after i explained my situation to her and they said they'd be fine with doing the u/s and i can take it from there whatever practice I'd like to stay with. Wow. is all i can say.

I was totally surprised. I told them i was with midwives but not hbing as I thought they'd reject the idea out of hand. So I'm so happy now. Yesterday was by far the most depressing day of my life. I felt my second hb dream disappering now i at least feel a little better about it. funny, i knew i felt strongly about it but when you suddenly become "more risky" and have nightmares about c-sections it really sends it home how badly i want my hb!

thanks again ladies. i really appreciate the support.
