I'm looking into midwifery schools and Birthwise in Maine looks really good. I'll be able to use my military benefits to pay for it and I can do my practical training there without having to move again. Plus I have some family in New England. Does anyone have any experience with this school?

I considered it. I changed my mind only b/c they were put off and not as kind as I'd hoped when I told them my age.
However, it looks great.
If it works for you, go for it.

HI there,
I am a New Englander, born in ME, and I have a friend who went to Birthwise... a dear babysitter of mine ended up there actually, and loved it. It is small, very hands on, and located in a funky little town in a beautiful lakes region where I grew up camping every summer, loved it there! If I could take off and go to school full time, I would be there myself! I wish they offered more seminars and part time stuff, but their program is pretty intense, for the career lay midwife. I recommend a trip to come see it at least :wink

I haven't gone there (yet), but I know several people who have gone and graduated. I think it is a really good program. It is pretty small though, and they are getting more and more selective about who they accept as the competition for acceptance is pretty fierce. So, if you are serious about going there in the future, do everything and anything you can now that is birth-related for preparation.
