Garbage

Has anyone else noticed since being pregnant/delivering their baby how much TRASH seems to be generated?! I have thrown out/recycled so much packaging lately its unbelievable. Not just that, but I've gotten so much junk mail. Also, everywhere I go they give me "helpful" information - reams of useless paperwork like what meconium looks like, or why you need a carseat, or some such thing that just gets thrown out. The hospital actually sent me home with two huge bags of this stuff - ads and samples and other pseudo-educational junk. Just making an observation here :)

Yes....While I was on bedrest, none of our paper got burned. It was literally up to the ceiling in our pantry. Dh finally burned this past week...we had a shower Saturday, and now I think we have to burn again. He was all bummed to see all that paper! But, that's the one good thing about getting all of those clothes, at least they don't come in plastic packaging!

No kidding... our recycling gets picked up every other week, and we're consistently holding on to 4 weeks of recycling that's piling up in the garage and house. :(

The other day I got two cans of formula in the mail courtesy of Similac... They got my name from some mailing list.

FYI...if you're delivering in a hospital, you can tell them you don't want to take any materials home. I declined the "free" diaper bag...it was full of pamphlets, info, formula, breastfeeding stuff, and a pacifier. NO THANKS!

I totally agree! I've been freecycling all the baby wrapping/bags/tissue paper I got from gifts & shower... all the cardboard from gifts goes in the recycling... and tons of trash from all my nesting! We don't have recycling in our township yet, so I've been sneaking it all over to my former roommate's apartment's recycling! :lol

I SO understand, except my problem is I am an incurable pack-rat...so I don't get rid of as much as I SHOULD!! :lol

I found out yesterday that my birthing center doesn't send moms home with "diaper bags." WOO HOO! :thumb

I don't know what I was thinking, but I actually thought there might be something good and/or useful in there so I took the bags home. I learned my lesson! We also got a flat tire on the way home from the hospital (talk about stressful, with the new baby in the car on the interstate, having just given birth 24 hrs before and barely able to sit) - now we have a tire we have to dispose of too! :irked:

We don't have recycling in my neighborhood either yet (curbside pick-up or public bins I mean). Its hard to believe in this day and age some communities still don't have it. We just have a central location someplace out in the country and hardly anyone uses it.
