One of my longtime friends was over the other night, and I was talking about how we're not going to be putting a bed into the front room for awhile, cuz ds1 still isn't ready to be out of our room, and told me he thinks it's too scary to be in another room. She said "Well, isn't he going to have to deal with sleeping in another room at some point?" and I said "Yeah, but he'll come to that on his own, there's no need for us to force it before he's ready." And she got really sad and said "Wow, you're right. I totally remember wanting to come in and sleep with my mom sometimes, and she never let me. She was adamant that it would create a habit. Even when I was in my 20s and my dad died, she refused to let me come sleep with her, and it still upsets me." And then she started crying!

I felt so bad for her, and felt so reassured that I was doing the right thing with my kids.

That is really sad. :( I'm so sorry for your friend.

We are actually in the process of creating DS1's first room, but we have no expectations of him actually sleeping there. The last time I recall sleeping w/ my mom, I was about 12 or so.

:( for her. But thank the universe we are enlightened enough to realize our children need us, even at night.

I can tell you that is exactly why my dd sleeps with us. I was terrified of the dark when I was little. I remember watching a horror movie with my family (Creepshow--not the scariest one ever made, but still...)when I was about 8 or so. I woke up in the middle of the night from a nightmare that had to do with the movie. I climbed into my parents bed and my dad kicked me out. I was so scared that I slept on the floor. When he realized I was there he made me go back to bed:(

My dd can sleep with me when ever she wants, I don't care how old she is.

:( My ds starts the night off in his room and comes in to our bed at some point during the night. Anyone who comments to us is welcome to come over, pick up ds after he comes running in to our room and feel how fast his little heart is racing. I couldn't imagine sending him back to his own room!
