Exactly the same, at least mine was. He had his first hep B before he left the hospital (at 5 weeks, weighing 5 pounds) and had the usual shots at his 2-month visit (he was only vaxed up through 6 months).

my experience with my dd who was 6 weeks early and in the NICU for 10 days -- the schedule isn't much different if at all. The docs wanted to give my dd hepB as we were getting ready to leave the NICU (she was still premature at that point). We declined. But, the well baby checks are done based on the actual birth date not the due date so her 2 month appt was technically 6 weeks early and we did vax her then with the recommended vaxes. Then, I did the same thing at 4 and 6 months. Then I woke up. No more. My ds was also a premie - 5.5 weeks early and again, they would have given him HepB before leaving the NICU. He has had no vaxes.
IMO, docs are on autopilot with re: to vaxes unless you speak up.

Lisa,
Thank you for your response.
Is it good to vaccinated NICU/premmie?

I wouldn't vaccinate ANY child. Honestly. If anything, I'd delay if I were you--until you had time to read up about the immune system, the diseases, and the vaccines that provide "protection" from the diseases...the more I knew about vaccination, the more I realize a healthy baby=a baby with an untouched immune system.

IMO it's worse than vaccinating a full-term baby, but unfortunately I didn't "wake up" until 6 months.

teagreenribbons--what do you think about vaccination? How do you feel about vaccinating preemies or vaccinating full-term babies?
Why vaccinate?
A lot of people ask the wrong question, "why shouldn't I vaccinate?"--when really they should be asking, "why should I vaccinate?"
Are you asking this about your own children or as a general question?

I wouldn't vaccinate any baby and SURELY not a preemie ahead of schedule (ie on actual age not adjusted age) The vaccines are not tested on preemies.

mrsfatty,
I'm asking this as an general question and don't have kids.
Since I came to Mothering and the other magazines that I subscribe to as well. This board as well. I will not vaccinate or my kids as well.
Before I came here. Really didn't know that much about this or did research on this.
Thank you.

LI, those links didn't come up for me. Where is the VAERS database homepage?

For some reason, every time I do a copy and paste from another thread, it never "takes." Check now, they will work.

The ped wanted me to vax dd on the regular schedule according to her chronological age, not gestational age... She got her Hep B before leaving the hospital and a set of shots at age 2 months but I learned better after that and she hasnt received any shots since then.. shes now 10.5 months old... But I was told by a few people that vaxing on the regular schedule is recommended for preemies as well... She was born at 35 weeks and weighed 4 lb 7 oz..

I have had three preemies, and it has always been suggested to me that they be vaccinated according to their birth age, but we haven't vaccinated any of the kids.......

crysmomofthree,
Thank you for your response to this question and I'm glad you didn't vaccinated them as the vaccinated schedule for your kids who were preemies/NICU as instructed when you left the NICU with them.
