hi ladies,

i recently found out that i'm pg w/ baby #2 (yipee!) and due around nov. 16. i plan to continue nursing my dd (21 mos.) until she self-weans.

here's my quandary - other than being tired, i don't really feel pregnant - not like i did when i was pg w/ dd. anyone else still nursing and feel this way? i've heard that hormones from nursing can keep the pregnant feelings at bay, but i can't find anything about this online (of course). but i figured if i was going to find a bunch of mamas still nursing #1 while pg w/ #2, this would be the best place to look. :)

help calm my fears and tell me that others feel this way. i'm happy that i feel so good, but at the same time, it worries me that something is wrong.

thanks much :)

Ditto to everything you said! I don't have an answer but couldn't read and not reply!

ds is 13 months, I'm due 11/10, and didn't feel a thing until today.

Today, however, Zy (as we're calling this baby) reintroduced me to the joy of returning meals =)

I've not felt much either. DS is also 21 months and nurses twice a day (left side at nap time, right side at bed time :lol). I'm constantly queasy - just very slightly. And I'm expanding. :lol But haven't really had breast pain yet or anything like that. I'm only 5 weeks today though, and last preg, I didn't really get the morning sickness until 6 or 8 weeks maybe? I was very slightly queasy right away and expanding right away (lucky me), but the real symptoms waited. And the breast pain came around the same time I think.

But every preg is different, and lack of symptoms this early is still pretty normal. :) I don't know if the nursing is affecting it or not.

DS is 12 months and still nursing. He has cut down alot this past week though. :( I'm due around 11/16 and I really don't feel pg. I have a few bouts of nausea thoughout the day. Of course, I've never really had bad pg symptoms with any of my kiddos.

I am newly pregnant while tandem nursing #1 (3.7 yo) and #2 (almost 19 months) and besides feeling a bit queasy and Tired I have no symptoms... (besides that I already look preggo and I am only 5 weeks)...
When I was nursing though last pregnant it was the same.... no symptoms....

Don't worry... I like having virtually no symptoms... makes pregnancy even better!! :D but I do understand the worries :)

I have tandem nursed twice and remember well how puzzled I was by the dearth of info on nursing while pregnant. I had no (health) problems related to this and birthed 8.5 lb healthy babies both times.

That's weird. I was just the opposite. With ds, I really didn't even have a clue or feel I was pregnant until I was almost into the second trimester! WIth this one I knew right away and really felt pregnant before the test even came up positive. OF course, you really can't help but feel pregnant when you are puking and nauseated 24/7.

Oops, read this on New posts. Didn't realize it was a DDC! I'm due in May. Oh well, anyway, you have my input!

My 4 1/2 year old still bf's to sleep (the only time he nurses) and so far my morning sickness has not turned into hyperemesis like did with him and my dd. So maybe there is something to this theory, I have read it a couple of places (can't remember where now). Maybe I should get my ds to nurse more.:wink :lol

Dropping in from the July DDC...I also really didn't have any symptoms, other than some icky sicky feelings for about two weeks, and being extremely tired. It was very different from my first pregnancy!

Have you read Adventures in Tandem Nursing yet? There's tons of info in that book about nursing while pregnant. :)

Good luck!!

ah yes, this is why i love MDC. :) so many mommies in the same shoes as me compared to conventional msg boards. :)

thanks for all the input ladies. it's reassuring to know that others feel the same way (or have felt the same way) that i do. it'd be wonderful to not have to deal w/ MS and still have a healthy pregnancy. :)

i might chk out adventures in tandem nursing. thx for the suggestion. :)

30 month old dd nurses several times a day (she's a boobaholic) and I have had no symptoms yet. I was really sick with her for about 6 months, so I'm hoping this time around will be easier.
I hadn't heard about nursing supressing symptoms! Good, i hope its true!:lol

I was really sick yesterday, and I thought I was gonna have to be all shades of jealous of you women =) But I also realized that my son didn't nurse much yesterday morning because we had to be out of the house early - and late last night... and he napped part of the afternoon at home.

Today he didn't get much sleep overnight, so he was fussy and awake and fighting naps - and nursing like crazy. And I've felt SO good today.

So I really do think you might have something here!

I'm still nursing my 20 mos old (non-stop) & just found out were pregnant. He had a cold & then gave it to me & it has lingered on for about 4 wks now!! Then I realized that I was late - BIG SURPRISE!! We were really hoping for at least 3 yrs in b/n but what do you do? I'm also due 11/16

I don't think I can hold out & do both nurse & grow a baby. I am so wiped out now. I had migraines for a week straight - they finally left - I upped the water intake hugely & I think that made a big difference. The sinuses are still a mess. I have been feeling very yucky & nautious / queasy constantly - hormones everywhere in my body - I must get some ginger tablets or something. Unfortunately I don't throw up - but I feel like it would be such a help to get it all out! My nipples have on occasion felt like glass shards were piercing into them - not a fun sensation!!

I don't know how I will wean my son - he is addicted to nana's & I don't see him giving them up easily. I definitely think I could handle things if we just gave up the night time nursing. That would make my life easier. I don't remember feeling this yucky with him so I'm not sure if it has to do with the extra nursing hormones in the mix??

things seem to be on the up side today...I finally got out & got some ginger capsules but haven't even taken one yet. We have been going stir crazy here - my ds is sick again & it seems like one or both of us have been feeling yucky for the past 4 wks!! I'm glad you're feeling well - hope that it stays that way!!

We are in the Vail valley....how about you?? sounds like both of our kids are pretty close in age!! :)

to the op, I'm so glad you asked this question I was ready to post it myself! I'm do sometime in late Nov. Ds is 27 months, and I've only "heard" things about nursing while pregnant. My mother (who never nursed any of us) keeps asking me if I can nurse while pregnant:rolleyes. I've heard at my local LLL group mostly about toddlers weaning while the mom was pregnatn. This makes me a bit sad as I don't think I'm ready to wean him. I've also heard that since nursing (the hormones associated w/ it) cause uterine contractions sometimes women are discouraged from nursing while pregnant. I don't know any moms who nursed a toddler during and after a pregnancy, I wish I did to be reassured a bit.

I am nursing a 24 mo. old and am due on the 14th. I started feeling like I was coming down with fever when I was 6 weeks. Lately I have felt fine but very tired and groggy in my thinking. Maybe ds's nursing has slowed a little since I've been pg but not much. My boobs don't hurt at all. My last pg I was on antidepressants and had to stop the minute the test came up positive. I was so dizzy I couldn't get out of bed for 10 days and gained 10 lbs in those 10 days. After that I didn't get out of bed until the 2nd trimester 'rosy glow' hormoned kicked in and then everything was beautiful!

I've nursed through two pregnancies and I'm tandeming through this one. I think I have had fewer symptoms with the pg's I've nursed in, early pg symptoms, anyway. I was exhausted with #1, threw up several times in the first tri, and had daily nosebleeds that would sometimes last half an hour or more. With the pgs I've nursed through, I've been queasy but not thrown up, haven't been so tired, and had few nosebleeds. And the breast symptoms have been less, but that's normal, since my breasts don't need preparation if I'm already nursing.

I was just about to post this question myself! Glad you asked it. It's been nice to read the responses. I'll have to check out that book, too. :)

I'm nursing my baby on demand & he's not eating any solids yet so it's pretty much all the time. My only symptom was some heartburn all night last night. Oh, & I'm a bit more tired than usual but I just attributed that to playing catch up after a few nights of my 3 y.o. & the baby being up alot & not letting me sleep.

I think I'm also due around the 15th or 16th, but don't know for sure since my cycles weren't regular before I got pg again. And I can usually test positive very early. With this pg I didn't get a pos. until I was about 3 weeks past when I expected my period.

I'm still not totally convinced I'm pg, even though the tests say so. The no symptoms thing is wierd. Nice, but wierd.

Congrats on all your pg's, momma's!! :)

I remember the end of pregnancy as being difficult to get comfortable and sleep. DS still nurses a lot a night. Should I think about night weaning now or does it all just kinda work out?

I don't have a "what YOU should do" answer, but I know that night weaning was important for me by at least the end of this pregnancy. I was thankful that he night weaned right befor we got pregnant (I'm sure that's what brought my fertility back). He still nurses like crazy throughout the day, but I get some solid sleep at night, which I physically need right now.

I know several moms who have tandem nursed through pregnancy and after birth.

I am due Nov 14 and still nursing my 26 month old. She's night weaned but we still nurse several times a day.

Read Adventures in Tandem Nursing. It's really helped me stop worrying and feel a lot better about what we're doing.
