I moved furniture around today with my mother. We mostly slid and pushed it around. although we thought we could move a digital piano down the stairs...which was tough- could it have harmed the baby???????????

IMO, moving furniture in a way that it engages certain abdominal muscles can be harmful. My neighbor had a csection because she was moving bookshelves and couches by herself at about 38 wks and she caused the placenta to separate (placenta abruptio?). So she bled and went to the dr.
I just moved into a new house, and I am 37 wks right now. I have been careful with what I'll lift. If I can move it in a way that does not engage my core abdominal muscles, then I go ahead.
I think if you slid and pushed things around (yay for girlie moving! men just pick it up and put it down where they want it :thumb ) you're fine.
Be sure you don't exhaust yourself either. That can cause labor to start too(unless you want labor to start, at 39 wks!! :) ) Just listen to your body.

I don't think that you could have harmed the baby as much as you could have harmed yourself! Babies are sturdy little creatures and are very well protected by all that amniotic fluid. Just be mindful of how you feel and if you have any bleeding call yout Dr or midwife!

Good luck on the birth of your baby!

ditto colleen. the main concern for lifting the heavy stuff is for your muscles' sake and also causing you to go into labor. at 39 weeks I don't suppose that'd be so bad, though.
