Greetings, I am 13 1/2 weeks pregnant with my first child. Two days ago I woke up and had dark brown spotting in my underwear. This was very alarming because I have not bled at all so far. I am also experiencing minor cramping pains which I think may be the round ligament pain I keep reading about. However, the dark blood has continued for two days (a light flow). I was told it's "old blood". I'm not panicking because it's not bright red but, I'm still a little nervous. Has anyone experienced bleeding in their second trimester? What could be some of the causes? What did you do about it? Thanks for any replies.

I know you must have been very frightened when you saw the blood!

I also bled during the 2nd trimester at around 16 weeks with my first pregnancy (4 years ago). I freaked out when I saw the blood! Midwife had me go to the hospital where they admitted me and monitored me all night. I was having contractions, though very small. The next day I had a level 3 ultrasound to make sure everything was okay. Everything checked out fine, and I never bled again. The only explanation I ever got was that my placenta may have torn just a little (though I don't think it showed on the ultrasound) and caused the blood, but no harm to baby. I was very careful for a few weeks after that not to over do it. I was still able to exercise, but I limited it to water aerobics.

You should take it easy for a week or so. Nurture your self and your growing baby.:love

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Enjoy!!!

Just trying to re-vive this thread, as I too am 14 weeks preggo and have had brown bleeding for the last week or so. MW thinks everything is fine, but no real explanation. I'm having an US tomorrow b/c MW couldn't find the heartbeat on Thursday morning, but said my uterus felt fine.

It's so hard not to freak out about this. It did not happen at all in my first pregnancy, and I just would like an explanation. Anyone else have any thoughts?

I bled on and off during my last pg, never really found out why, but everything turned out okay.
