View Full Version : Need resources on not inducing late babies

I am 10 days overdue today and an induction is planned for 3 days from now. My first baby was 8 days late, but I went into labor on my own, went to the hospital at 5cm dilated and she was born without drugs or interventions and very healthy. This time around, I am dilated to 2 cm with contractions every single day, off and on all day, and strongest in the evenings, but to no avail!
My doctor has been understanding and really good about my wishes, but he also said that after 42 weeks there is a higher rate of c-sections, meconium staining, and infant mortality. Does anyone have resources that give facts on post-term babies? I am scheduled to be induced on Thursday and I am thinking of putting it off until Monday. I know this baby is getting big and I am getting miserable with all the contractions and the pain he is causing, as he is sitting so low. But I desperately do not want pitocin!
Any info from those who have been there or recommendations for websites?
Sara

((((hugs))))) I was induced at 42 weeks with my dd, I'm currently 42 weeks today. I'm having a homebirth this time, so no "threat" of inducement from my MW who is OK with me going 43 weeks but does want me to go in for BPP after 43 weeks if I haven't had the baby yet.

There is a lot of good info at this page, plus personal experiences...

My understanding is that while the risk my "rise" at 42 weeks, there is not a statistically significant increase until after 43 weeks, and even then many babies do great. :)

When I was induced at 42 weeks the doctors were surprised that my placenta looked like a "39-week" placenta... some women are just long gestators. I guess I'm one of them. :o

That was what I was going to suggest! BirthLove.
I too was SCARED into induction w/ Pitocin at 42 weeks with my first child by an ob/gyn that I went to for 4 yrs! This time around I am planning a homebirth with midwives and rented an AquaDoula birthing tub and hired a Doula. Although now I'm dealing with my midwife being a MEDwife. Read my post if you want.

there's more info out there--I have to look it up. I would just not show up for the induction--no one can make you do anything--it is your body and your baby. There are so many BAD things with labor induction-just because it is done so much in this country, doesn't make it right! Do you know that there is no law making drs, midwives, hospitals report complications--such as MATERNAL DEATH, RUPTURING of the UTERUS, FETAL DEATH, etc.?
I will try to post back the other info soon.
