Hi. I'm currently 27 weeks along and have some problems- gestational diabetes, and PIH, which I had with my last pregnancy 8 yrs ago...For over a week now I have had alot of pressure and discomfort in my lower abdomen and groin area. My Dr. did a urinalysis (came back clean), and now wants to do both a abdominal and vaginal ultrasound to check the size of fetus, and to check my cervix position? What is the reason for checking my cervix? Is there a possibility that I might go into preterm labor and the vaginal ultrasound is being used to show this? Or is there other reasons for this? Any ideas would be appreciated greatly. Thank you.

Since you haven't gotten any answers, I'll take a stab at this. Apparently, if you had incompetent cervix (IC), it could "funnel", and they would see this on an u/s. I don't know too much more about it, but look up "funnel cervix" and you'll probably get more info on it. :) IC can cause preterm labor, and obviously you would want to try to stop that if you have it. Hopefully that's not the case for you, but it's good that they're checking it out. Better to rule out PTL than to not notice it until it's too late to stop it. :)
