Hi,

I'm an AP mom to DS Luca who is 12 months old in Marlboro. I would like to form a playgroup with like-minded women. I too am breastfeeding and co-sleeping. E-mail me if you would like to correspond. Perhaps we can meet at an LLL meeting or something.

Darn, I'm too far North! I'm in Northern Somerset County, which is about an hour away from you all. Oh well, good luck!

Hi, I'm a Freehold Mommy. I love these boards and I have learned a lot here. My DD is a 10 1/2 month old BF beautiful little girl. I have moved a couple times and most of my friends live in other parts of the state, I would love to meet other moms in this area. DH and I moved here about 1 year and 1/2 ago.

I read on the NJ, NY board that there is a LLL conference in East Brunswick coming up.

I am so excited that there are other moms in NJ like me! I was starting to feel like an island. :-)

What do you all think of starting an e-mail list? It would allow us to chat and get to know each other better, without all our information being posted on a message board. (I'm very big on online privacy, can you tell, LOL?)

I set up a Yahoo group, called New Jersey Natural Parents if anyone wants to come subscribe. To join, you should just have to send an e-mail to "NJNP-subscribe@yahoogroups.com". This is the first time I am trying this, so if you have trouble e-mail me at karen_marinelli@yahoo.com and we'll figure it out.

While I was setting it up, I also found a list called NJAttachedParents, which seems like a similar group. Maybe we should just join them? According to the group description they also plan get-togethers.

what days are good for everyone to plan a meeting? I work baby-sitting on m,t,th,&friday mornings. That means I'm available any afternoon or on Wednesday and weekends.

I think it would be a lot of fun to meet everyone, I work fulltime though, so would only be able to do it on the weekends. Let me know if that is okay, I understand if you all do it without me. Weekends are hard.

I can't seem to find the group on Yahoo. Any ideas on how I might be able to sign up for it.

momof1baby--although weekends are usually busy, I hang out at the Freehold Barnes and Noble Saturday mornings sometimes. If you see a woman wearing a baby boy in a sling--that's me :D feel free to approach me...

I live out in Flemington and for religious reasons would not be able to make it out to visit you all on a Sat. am. What about another day of the week. I am about 1 hour from Freehold.

Singermom - Where in Somerset County do you live. It might be a better idea for us to meet because we are closer together?? What do you think?

abismommie

Thursday mornings there is a great storybook hour at that B&N - at 10:00. I can do monday's, Thursday's or Fridays.

I could actually come this Thursday (3/27). What is the age range for the storybook hour?? Where is the B&N?? I would need an address or directions. Thanks.

Here is a link to the store with the address and directions:

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/frames/storeLocator/storeLocator_zip.asp?ZIP=07724&userid=52GURQIG7D&linkto=shop

I'd say it would be great for any age - the lady is wonderful that does it. Unfortunately I don't think I can make it this Thursday. Won't know for sure until Wednesday afternoon. But I can make any other Thursday.

Hugs,

Mingber:

Apologies for not responding sooner to your question--I've had very little online time lately.

I'm in Bernardsville, about 30-40 minutes from Flemington. I work full time, so weekends are pretty much it for me.

mingber

Abismommie - I will try to be there tomorrow. It depends on my daughter and her behavior (which has been a problem lately). She just lost a trip to Toys R Us to look for a big girl 2 wheeler bike. I'll have to see how things go with her.

Singermom - I got laid off two months ago from my full-time job and I can't find another. The economy is so AWFUL!!! Meanwhile, I am home most of the time with 2 kids that are driving me insane!! Sunday's would work for me becuase my husband works most Sundays. What do you think???

Hi, I just noticed this thread- I haven't been on these boards in awhile. I live in Somerville, so Bernardsville and Flemington are both pretty close to me (though in different directions). I'd love to meet up with some of you! I'm at home currently, so pretty much anytime would work for me.

LoriG - Where was the rest? and what was the name? I know of a wonderful one also called LaScala on N Gaston Ave.

EileeninNJ - I work part-time and my car pool schedule to school is crazy. I would love to get together, but only on a Sunday and not till after all the Jewish holidays in Oct.

Lori- was it Origin, by any chance? French Thai, yummmm. Martinos, the Cuban restaurant, is really good also.

LoriG
09-11-2003, 09:35 AM
I can't remember what it was called, it was this Mongolian grill thing.
I didn't know there was a Cuban restaurant in Somerville!!
I went to Miami 2 years ago to visit family and everywhere you went there were these Cuban restaurants (but of course). My brother and I were loving it!! It's one thing I miss about being up here :(
All the restaurants that I knew of that were Cuban were like in Newark or Jersey City --I didn't really want to drive there just for food ;)

Is Martino's the place where the chef comes out and dances with the female diners? If so, I've been there...and danced! What a fun place.

EileeninNJ ~ I PMed you back! :D

Can anyone recommend a good midwifery practice in the Somerset/Hunterdon county area? I'd prefer a practice affiliated with a free-standing birth center, if possible. I'm not pg, but I never received a post-partum check up after my DD was born 12 weeks ago. Thanks!

EileeninNJ
11-04-2003, 02:20 PM
I go to the midwives at Brunswick-Hills in Hillsborough. It's on Rte. 206. It's an OB/GYN practice with 3 midwives. I birthed with them at a hospital (they have privileges at Somerset Medical Center). I believe that there is not currently a free standing birth center in New Jersey... but I could be wrong about that.

I use Midwifery Care Associates in Pennington. They deliver at Mercer Hospital in Trenton. I'm not sure if that's too far for you or not. I think they're wonderful and highly recommend them.

Hello Ladies,

I just posted this in another place, but you are close to where the meetings will be and I thought you might like this group... we meet monthly as just mommies and then we have a bi-monthly playgroup at peoples houses ....
We have a fabulous network of moms with an online discussion list and many cool mom and tot outings....
Check out the website and come to our open house... we'ld love to meet you!

Are you a mom who is interested in natural health and holistic therapies?

Do you follow an "alternative" parenting style?

Are you looking to connect with other moms who share your perspective?

Then the Holistic Moms NetworkTM is for you!

You are invited to the Holistic Moms Network
South Jersey Chapters'
Open House on
Wendsday, January 14th
from 7-9 pm at
The River Studio
for healing and creative arts
11 West Sceond Street
Florence, NJ 08518
609-499-2004

This Open House will allow us to propose ideas for future meetings, meet and greet moms with similar parenting styles, develop a network of support and learn about and sample the Suburban Organics food coop offerings.

What is The Holistic Moms Network?
The Holistic Moms Network is a member-led, not-for-profit support and discussion network for moms with an interest in natural/holistic and alternative health and parenting. We were founded in New Jersey in 2002 by a few moms who were parenting to a different beat and yearned for the support and friendship of others who shared their viewpoint. Today the Holistic Moms Network is a non-profit corporation with several chapters and a growing membership. Our goal is to reach out to holistic moms throughout the United States and to help them to find the support and community they are longing for. We work toward this goal by helping to create member-run, grassroots communities of holistic moms by establishing local chapters.

All of our chapters hold monthly meetings for their members. Each month our moms gather to discuss natural health and parenting and to provide support to one another in our pursuit for wellness. Every meeting is an opportunity to connect with other moms, renew your spirit through the warmth and compassion of others, discuss a range of topics and issues, and to build valuable friendships.

In the past, some of our chapter monthly meetings have covered topics such as:

* Healthy Eating/Organic Foods
* Natural Childbirth
* Breastfeeding
* Positive Discipline
* Yoga and Meditation
* Holistic Education/Homeschooling
* Fighting Consumerism
* Aromatherapy
* Environmental Concerns/Conservation
* Political Activism
* Exploring Natural Health Choices . . . and much, much more!

Chapter members decide on topics of interest to them and explore them through the monthly meetings. To learn more about some of our chapters' past meetings and topics, visit the article Archives section located on our News page. There you will find sample notes from meetings, including those on such topics as Feng Shui and Aromatherapy.

In addition to monthly meetings, chapters may host a number of other activities for their members, including a members-only email loop which provides moms with an on-line community where they can interact and share resources between meeting dates. Chapters are free to create their own activities, such as playgroups, Mom and Tot Outings, and Book Clubs. Please visit our Services page to learn more how our organization works!

Hi! I'm new here and I just saw this thread! I live in Ocean County, near the border of Monmouth County... I grew up in Monmouth County though. I'm almost 24 (at the end of July) and married to Davey who is 29 and from England. We have a son, Ben, who will be 9 months on the 1st of July. I would LOVE to meet some mom's in my area!!! I have one friend that I met on another board and we are great friends now! I don't know what I would do without her! None of my friends (before I met her) have kids or are even close!!! Feel free to send me a message!

I'm not in Jersey anymore, but check out the Yahoogroup NJAttachedParents. Not everyone on their is holistic, but some are and they should be able to tell you what groups/resources there are in your area. They are a great group for alternative parenting styles.

There is also a pretty big Monmouth Co playgroup that is pretty crunchy that got started through this list. There are several moms in the Eatontown/Howell area that aren't that far from you!

Hey Somerset County girls, if you're planning to get together, I'd love to join you. I live in Manville, right next door to Somerville. My son Rowan is almost 10 weeks old, and we are co-sleeping, breastfeeding, sort of slinging :), and p/t c-ding. I'd love to get together with some like minded mamas in the area. Do you guys go to the LLL meeting at the Bridgewater library at all? I've gone twice. It's pretty cool. I'm no longer working at the moment, so I'm pretty much free anytime right now.

I would also highly recommend Midwifery Care Associates in Pennington. Pam and Louise are wonderful. They attend home and hospital deliveries.
