Hi all -
So I'm about 17 weeks pg and have put on about 10 lbs, which according to my mw is about right. My problem is I'm hungry ALL THE TIME - I mean ALL THE TIME!!! Whether I eat protein (yogurt shakes, cheese, peanut butter, boiled eggs), fruit (bananas, apples), carbs (bagels, cereal, pasta), veggies (carrots with hummus has been the big one), mix and match the above - you get the idea. Basically, no matter what I eat, I'm hungry! I started this pg off heavier than I was with ds (about 20 -25 lbs) so I don't want to gain alot of weight ... I'd like to keep it to no more than 25 lbs but if I keep eating like this ... :dropjaw
I should also say I have begun exercising again (1/2 hour a day which is making me hungry but is also helping).
Any suggestions on "filling foods" would really be appreciated!
Thanks
Mona

Eat meat? IF not start just while you are pregnant, then quit again when the baby is born.

Thanks for the suggestion - I do eat chicken and turkey ... maybe I'll try loading up on that earlier in the day.

Are you drinking enough water? Sometimes thirst masquerades as hunger. And water (and milk) can be really filling.
Your diet sounds healthy, though -- if your body wants more, I would let it have more!

I agree with mimi! :nod
I am in the same boat...I don't remember being this ravenous with ds.... :shy and I too was heavier from the start with this pregnancy, so I don't want to gain too much with this one! :o

I hear you. Today I had 3 small slices of whole grain bread with butter, one with cheese, one with ham and one with jelly. And 1 cup of Ersatzcoffee. In the Afternoon I had a slice of cored pineapple ( thick one) and another cup Ersatzcoffee.Evening I had a steamed cabbage dish with 4 slices of bread. Just now I had 2 servings of cornflakes with milk.
I know tomorrow I will have gained weight. And I easily could have eaten half a cow in between :irked:
22 weeks and 15 pounds so far :(
I have no advice though, if I really don't eat or restrict myself more than today I get weird stomach cramping and my throat feels like it's tightening up. So I just eat and try to keep it healthy.
I hope nursing will slim me down postpartum :o

You've pretty much described my whole pregnancy... and I was actually eating a lot of the things you describe too :D
I've gained 60+ lbs at 38 weeks. This is a normal weight gain for my family, tho, so I'm not overly concerned (OK, sometimes I freak out a little, but then I remember that my sister got triple chins, and I only have one and a half chins so far... so I'm doing well! And both my mom and my sister lost the weight within a year.)
Anyway, mostly I can just comisertate. I never found anything that filled me up enough to take away all the hunger... even after eating meat, I'll be snacky hungry almost immediately. I am eating healthy foods, and I think that's just got to be "good enough" for now.

I was freaking ravenous the entire time I was pregnant with DD. I couldn't eat enough, to the point that I was waking up in the middle of the night for a fourth meal, just to get enough to eat in 24 hours. It was all healthy stuff, a good balance and very little "junk" food. And I did wind up gaining a lot of weight-- about 70 pounds. :bigeyes that's a lot, I know, but you know what? It was gone within three months, all except for five pounds, and without any dieting or exercise or any special effort at all. My conclusion? My body genuinely needed that weight, for whatever reason, for DD to be healthy.
I say that if you're eating a good balance of healthy food, then follow your "cravings" and eat when you're hungry. Avoid empty calories (make those carbs whole grains, not refined), make sure you have good sources of iron in your diet, and make sure to drink a lot, and then stop worrying about weight.

Thanks for the suggestions and "i've been there's". I guess as long as I'm eating healthy and exercising, I'll listen to my body ...

Well I'm 16 1/2 weeks and also just RAVENOUS. It's weird. I was definitely not this hungry with my son so I'm a little confused. I've gained 15-18 pounds already!! Maybe it's taking care of my son now (and nursing him still)?? Who knows. I want my body and baby to be healthy so I eat. I really try to keep it nutritious though...
Ummm...don't mind the cinnamon roll I'm gorging on now...
