ok.. I figured we could have a thread dedicated to stupid questions.. things we would never ask for fear of people rolling their eyes or flaming you.. but we really want to know.. this is a flame proof thread..so ask away.. nothing is too stupid.
my question is:
Can I still have a midwife even though I am nearly certain I am going to end up w/another C-section... I would rather a midwife then an OB.. but I am not sure because more then likely I will end up in surgery and I know a midwife cannot do that...I feel silly asking but I really don't know..:innocent :o

Zaxmama-- hi! This isn't a direct answer to your question BUT:
get yourself a doula. if you think you will have a c-sec., (even a planned one) thisis a good idea. I had planned on a scheduled c-sec because of breech positioning. I wanted my doula there to help with breastfeeding and also to be with me, because DH was to be with the baby until he roomed with me.
Well, all our plans were shot to everywhere. I went into labor the day of my c-sec, baby turned head down, so we labored :thumb . Doula was vital for this preocess. We ended up having a c-sec for compressed cord/really low heartbeat. DS was in NICU for a week. It was so comforting to have my doula with me in my room while DH was with DS.
With my next baby, I will definitely be finding a midwife :thumb!
BTW: Congrats!!1 I was in the Jan. 2006 DDC :thumb You guys are like our "little sisters" :lol

What a great question! I also will likely have a scheduled c, and I was thinking of finding a doula for breastfeeding help - last time, I was given the opportunity to put ds to the breast within about 15-20 mins of his birth (by c-section), but with no assistance or counsel whatsoever. I had no idea what I was doing. And it went downhill from there, so this time, I am determined to do better.

Midwives here in MI have to be in practice w/ an o/b. I'm not sure if that's the case where you are or not. I would definitely go with a midwife, get to know the o/b they're affiliated with and go from there. Midwives rock for prenatal visits as well as births.
Here's my "duh" question: Has anyone had a smaller successive baby? My kids were (in order) 7lb 3oz, 7lb 5 oz, and 9lb 11oz - I'm kinda scared for how big this babe will be considering our trend:lol

Zaxmama, absolutely you can consider having a MW for prenatal care even if you aren't planning on being able to give birth with her. I have assisted in midwifery for several years and have known a number of women that have midwifery prenatal care in order to focus on health and wellness, excellent guidance for proper nutrition, and dedication to optimal care that MW's bring.
Even if you are having a cesarean birth or multiples or whatever, it sounds like a good plan. I also second the "getting a doula" sentiment. You can't go wrong there!

I have not personally but am shooting for having a baby not much bigger than my last (DS #1 8lb 2oz, DS#2 8lb 6 oz). I have definitely known a lot of women that have had smaller babies after having a large baby. If was done with a concerted gentle awareness of exercise throughout pregnancy and with nutrition education. It can be done! Also I started my last pregnancy already overweight so I worked hard (OK fairly hard :wink ) to only gain 15 pounds. I still had an 8 lb baby though, but I didn't have a 10 or 11 pounder that I *could* have had if I indulged all my bad food cravings. Just curious, were you GD in your last pregnancy?

Hey Mamas Thank you so much for all the great answers I will definetly look into a Midwife and a Doula.. I am not worried about Breast feeding this time because DS and I bf'd for nearly 3 years and I kinda consider myself an Oldtimer..In fact I was able to assist my cousin when she had her first Babe 6 weeks ago..and it made me feel so great..I actually considered volunteering as a Lactation consultant (after I would get a bit of training) (BlissP - You can do it!!! if you need a buddy just PM me I will be more then happy to help you through the rough times..via Email anyhow!! hehe but you already have a winning attitude!!)
Gr8tfulmom- I only have one baby myself this is #2, however I know people that have had smaller babies after larger ones..and I lot was due to prenatal care and nutrition and exercise...but I am one to talk cuz I grow em' big..Ds was over nearly 11lbs.. I was NOT good about nutrition and exercise.. but this PG is different already..I am very cautious about diet and working on the exercise..I am diabetic too so that plays a big part.
TattoodMom- Thanks for your input as well..its so cool to ask and not feel foolish..and I have to say I find everyone on here so well informed I know you all would never steer a Sister wrong.. :love :love :love

Just curious, were you GD in your last pregnancy? Nope, not even close. I'm a bit overweight, but not crazy. I exercised, gained about 25lbs (which was much less than with my first 2) ate very well. My fluid was a bit on the high side during the last month, but we didn't find any *reason*, he was just a big guy. My brothers were both 10lb-ers, and my neice (now 2) was over 10, so maybe it's some reccessive genetics?? I'm definitely watching what I eat this time, but it didn't really make a difference the last time YK? Nice to know it has happened though :o

Hi! So my first timer “duh” question is… Is it normal for my pee to smell weird? Not fruity (I know that’s a symptom of diabetes)… just kind of off.
Thanks!

Could it be your heightened sense of smell?
Or your vitamins?

I know my pee is definitely scented with what I eat...

Prenatal vitamins can definitely make your pee look and smell off.

What's the difference between a midwife and a doula?
Not a question, but a random complaint: it's driving me nuts that my sense of smell is suddenly so much more sensitive. The last couple days, random things that I normally love (ruebens, pork tenderloin, and a sugar free fudge par, in particular), just smelling them makes me sick to my stomach. The fudge part was the most bizzare. I thru it out after a couple licks. (Oh, and cig. smoke is driving me crazy. It never had bothered me before, but I almost can't handle it anymore. And working in a bar, that's a bit of a problem!)

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, DH has mentioned my funny smelling pee so I know it’s not just my nose and I’ve been taking my supplements for a while so I’m used to their effect. Hmmm… I guess this is something to bring up when I see my yet-to-be-found health care provider.
