I had been diagnosed with chemical depression a few years before my son was born. I started out on Paxil but becuase of the sexual side effects I switched to Serzone. Paxil "mentally" made me feel better than the Serzone but as I was tring to conceive the loss of my sex drive didn't help matters! When I became pregnant I stopped my medication. Even though the risks were low I didn't want to take a chance since I had all ready miscarried once.

My son is now 18 months old and for the past 6 months I have slowly been feeling my depression coming back, a little stronger each week. I have been afraid to admit to myself or to my husband. I have no sex drive at all, am eating/drinking way too much, gaining weight and just feel the deep seated blahs. Sometimes I look at my son and just fel like I am going thru the motions. He has to sense that don't you think??

I want to get back on meds but was hoping to find out from you all what ones you found to be the most effective with the fewest side effects. I know it seems like a small thing in the grand scheme but I want to feel that sexual connection with my DH again. Is there any drug out there that won't counter that? I have also heard a female "viagra" for women who are on anti-depressants?

I plan on making an app't with my DR next week so thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

peace.

I'm on Lexapro and it is supposed to be the "best" as far as the sexual side effects go. I don't have much of a sex drive anyway so I'm no one to ask, but that is supposed to be one of the big perks of it is that it doesn't cause loss of sex drive.

I am taking Zoloft. I only had a problem with sex drive when my (former) doc put my dose up to 200 mg ! I reduced my dose to 100 mg & have had no problems since.

Carla, have you taken it while pregnant? I'm hoping to ttc #3 soon and am wondering about it. If you have, I may PM you soon.:)

when I TTC I will stop meds until the second trimester. I think during "formation" is when any ill effects might happen...JMO

I had no problems with side effects when I was taking Zoloft 100mg. It was just enough to make me feel human again.
I personally wouldn't take anything until the third trimester.
My midwife had me wean off Paxil when I found out I was pregnant with Abigail.

I appreciate it. I am meeting with my Dr next week so I wanted some "unoffical" feedback. I picked up a meds book from the library but trying to read thru the "official" side effects from the manufacture makes you never want to take any thing. Again, thanks.

I took paxil all through pg with dd#2 and there were no effects. I was only on 15mg, though. And I don't think I've had a sex drive since I began bfing dd#1!!!
