This is kindof hard to explain, but I'll try.

With my first pregnancy, I kept getting this feeling in my chest like my heart was skipping a beat...kwim? It happened several times a day. Also, every once in a while...I'd feel almost like a pinching, or pressure in that area as well, but in a few seconds, it would be gone. My OB with ds ran some tests, listened to my heart again and again, and found nothing really 'wrong.'

I should also add that I never ever felt shortness of breath, or dizziness or felt any severe discomfort or anything of that sort.....

After ds was born...it all stopped. Really, looking back, it wasn't as bad after my first trimester. Wierd, huh? :scratch I told my mom about it and she said she experienced the very same thing when pregnant with me and my brother. :shrug

Okey dokey.....

with this pregnancy tho, I don't know if I'm more in tune to it or what...but I get it all the time! (Even while typing this) Could this be from steadily inceasing blood supply? It is just worrisome when it comes to heart health, kwim? Has/is anyone else experienced this?

I do have a caffenated beverage every once and awhile. :bag: I also notice it more when I'm tired. (Which has been alot lately.... :shy)

I guess I'm just looking for some insight, support, advice, or similar experiences.....

I feel deep down that everything is ok, but I am by nature a worry wart and now a hormonal one...thanks for listening! :)

I have a slight murmer and it feels the way you describe when it acts up, though I can't say I noticed it more during pregnancy. It's nothing life threatening, though.
Perhaps it is something like that..although, the thought of all the extra blood makes sense as well...maybe it is a slight murmer and just that little bit extra needing to be pumped is causing it?

Hope you find out what it is, even just to put your mind to rest.:wink

Heart palpitations run in my family. I used to get them occasionally, and got checked out by my doctor. I wore a ECG monitor for a week: when I'd get that fluttery feeling, I had to press the device to my heart so that it could record the way it was beating, and then call it in to my doctor. Even when I was feeling the sensation, my heartbeat always looked totally normal. My doctor showed me the printouts so that I could see for myself, which made me feel a lot better. I really don't get them anymore, and I have no idea why. Aren't our bodies wonderful?:lol

I have always had an irregular heartbeat, which may or may not be due to a mitral valve prolapse (which my dad had, too). I've been to a couple of cardiologists, including right before TTC, and both said it's really nothing to worry about unless it's persistent or seriously affects your activity level.

I've noticed both times I've been pregnant that my heart flutters more than normal - at least once a day, and for a more prolonged period of time. I assume it's because it's working harder. I'm not sure whether it actually makes it difficult to breathe, or whether it just scares me and knocks the wind out of me, but it is quite disturbing, to say the least...but, the cardiologist I saw right before TTC assured me that there was nothing to worry about, even during pregnancy, labor and childbirth. So I'm trying to hang on to that. As he said, "This condition is something you will die WITH, not die FROM." :wink

I have gotten those strange heart palpitations you describe with this pregnancy too. This is something that I deal with when I'm not pregnant but it happens more frequently when I'm pregnant. It happened a lot in the first trimester and so far I've only had it once in the second trimester. My mom and sister have them too...

I too have a mild heart murmer, we caught it finally on an EKG this spring. It's nothing to worry about, my mom has the same thing. And, now that you mention it, it was worse during my pregnancy. I also noticed that it has started up again in the last few weeks. I wonder why that is? Maybe it does have to do with blood volume increasing. Or stress? Mine tends to be associated with stress.

oooooo, hopping on from a different ddc to say I get that too!!! I was told they are called PVC's (pre ventricular convulsions or something like that) and that they are benign. I'd still get it checked out though, just to make sure it is benign though. I've had it since I was like 13 and it's much worse during pregnancy.

I feel better just after reading all of your responses. :o

I am just gonna try to get more sleep, and cut OUT the caffeine, and of course keep my eye on it....thanks for the reassurance everyone! :)

Yeah, that definitely happened to me during my last pregnancy and I got the increased blood supply explanation from my midwife. It got kind of extreme and crazy during the last trimester but I was under a lot of stress and had a slightly raised bp as well.
