I wouldn't eat too much tuna though. That's one fish you should stay away from during pg because of the mercury content in it. But I'm sure every once and awhile won't really hurt. It just wouldn't be good to eat it excessively, kwim? But I DO understand how hard it can be when you have a craving for something specific! My big things now are tomato sandwiches w/ all natural bbq chips. Which is SOOO funny because I'm not really a big fan of raw tomatoes (only certain things, like tomato salad) and we rarely if ever buy chips. PG is a :nut thing!!

Tuna is my new craving too!!! And I know I'm going to have to keep it to once a week because of the mercury issue. I drove WAY out of my way on Tues. for a Tuna Sandwich on a baguette from this wonderful place here in "the Rock" called Boulevard Bread Co. The tuna salad has artichoke hearts, capers, and lemon mayo and it is SO delicious! :yum Can't wait until next week when I can have another!!!

Yeah, my inclinations toward food are running a bit strange too. This morning crab cakes sound Soooo wonderful. Yesterday spaghetti O's sounded good for breakfast :bag:

What a sweet dh Jaime.

I'm craving tuna fish sandwiches as well, but we didn't have money to go grocery shopping, so I haven't gotten any cans yet.

As far as the other post goes about mercury, I think you can have tuna once a week or something like that maybe more. Do a search on it. I've been reading about the mercury issue and there are so many different sides to it that I'm not sure I'm going to worry about it. I worried about every little thing I ate during my first pregnancy and it stressed me out. I'm not doing it this time...if I want tuna, I'm going to eat tuna, dangit!!!!:lol

EcoMama - Too funny! I was in love with tomato sandwiches with DS!! I remeber being broke right after DS's father robbed us (long story) and having no debit card b/c well it was stolen. My mom came to visit and I asked if I could borrow a dollar to go buy a tomato at the farmer's market. Being a dietitian she was happy to provide thankfully :lol I thought I was gonna die if I didn't get that tomato snadwich

This time I want chicken fingers and honey mustard 24/7. I don't eat alot of meat, but thats what I want :innocent

Thanks is ironic about the Tomato Sandwiches..because about a month ago my friend and I were at the Farmers market and decided to split a CASE of tomatoes..(they were only 6 bucks for a WHOLE case) we came home and made fresh salsa and had visions of making our own tomato sauce..I ate tomato sandwiches on toast for the next 2 weeks ..like every single day!! .. and now.. I start to gag when I even think about a tomato. DH was eating a salad the other day and said to DS, want a bite of Daddy's Tomato and just the thought sent me running to the can...gagging.. hehe..I can laugh about it now..so I may hate tuna tomorrow... I have decided to eat whatever I crave (within reason) because otherwise I have no appetite... I have actually lost about 9lbs.. in the past 6 weeks..

I'm going to wake DH up in the middle of the night this time with some odd food requests. Never happened before and he was sorely disappointed. :wink

And I accuse him of breathing too loud at night all the time. It's like sleeping next to Darth Vader. :lol

Ugh, I am having many, intense food aversions. I can't really eat vegetables right now, and they were a staple in my diet prior to hitting six weeks. I'm worried that my baby isn't getting the nutrients she/he needs, but I can't seem to stomach a lot of things right now. I'm not eating junk, but I do seem to be subsisting on turkey sandwiches, orange juice, eggs, bagels, fruit smoothies, and my m/s remedies (ginger ale, lemonade, saltines, etc.).

What healthy things are you eating?

uhm I have admit I have not been the best role model for healthy eating... however I figure that as long as I am taking my vitamins and drinking plenty of water my body will channel all nutrients I absorb to baby first.. I get queezy from the mere thought of Veggies since about 6 weeks also... I am trying to get in my protien as much as possible.. today it was spaghetti and meatballs... yesterday it was rotiesierre chicken... and ham and cheese samdwiches..... at least I am not existing on M&M's and rootbeer, it could be worse.. oh yeah and I ate some tiramisu tonight from whole foods.. YUM:love

Are you making your smoothies and eggs? One thought I had was you can chop up kale or something like that really small and throw a little bit in a smoothie or scramble it with your eggs. You probably won't be able to taste it and it'll get some minerals into you.

I feel lucky so far that I'm actually craving vegetables (with a tasty dressing). Veggies and eggs (with lots of hot sauce). It's still early though, I could end up eating white bread and butter soon here:lol

Meggles, as an aside, I'm so jealous of you living in Berkeley. I was living in Sonoma County when I was in my first trimester with ds and worked at the Berkeley farmer's markets. I miss all that good food .. I guess that doesn't help you now though since you can't stomach veggies :shy Soon, though ... look forward to that 2nd trimester!

No, no eggs in my smoothies, though I am going to try and get some protein powder to put in them. I figure I can get most of my fruit for the day in one smoothie just by adding OJ, blueberries/strawberries, and a banana.

I've been putting some spinach in scrambled eggs, which is okay so far.

I :heartbeat the farmer's markets here! :) I can't wait until July/Aug when I'm feeling better and it's tomato season!

I can't eat veggies either - and am a vegetarian!! very disturbing...what I have been told is NOT TO WORRY about not eating super-healthy in the first three months - just eat what you can. You would have to be pretty severely malnourished when getting pregnant for it to make a big difference - those babies are pretty resilient. Take your supplements and you and baby will be fine - and hopefully at the end of the 1st trimester we will all be able to eat normally again!!

I am in the same boat - a vegetarian who can't stand the sight of veggies right now! I am trying to sneak some in here and there (a little spinach in my noodle bowls, zucchini in spaghetti sauce), but it's tough going...my co-worker offered me some broccoli yesterday for lunch and I nearly gagged! But, during my last pregnancy my m/w told me the same thing - she said even if I was eating cheese pizza and ice cream for dinner, that was fine as long as I was not letting myself get hungry, and that I could worry about being super-healthy after the m/s was gone. That was music to my ears! :D

I meant to ask...what is the first thing y'all eat when you wake up in the morning? I have tried several different kinds of cereal, yogurt, fruit, muffins/scones/toast, eggs, trail mix, etc. - and so far, nothing seems to sit well with me! :sick

Maybe that's just the way it's going to be, but I'd love to hear any specific suggestions you have. The best so far for me has been a small bowl of Uncle Sam cereal with no sweetener and very little milk. Any others?

to be honest.. I eat leftovers from the previous nights dinner... whenever I eat cereal I feel sick anymore..for example.. this morning I ate leftover spaghetti and meatballs.. with a piece of italian bread... and I feel good.. however yesterday I ate some puffed wheat and ended up yakking.:shrug

I have a couple of saltines and water before I get out of bed. Breakfast is relatively soon after that. Today I had a bagel w/ cream cheese, scrambled eggs with hot sauce and a glass of non-fat milk (we're out of OJ).

I've had good luck with 2 egg whites and a bowl of cereal with no-fat milk. That holds me until about 10am. I have to snack on wheat crackers and cheese by mid-morning.

Oh, how I wish I had some food cravings. So far, just horrible aversions here:( DH just went out to get some bagels and cheese for me.. not because I crave them , but because its the only thing I can think of that doesn't make me want to barf.. problem is once I eat something I can't stand the thought of eating it again, so I have to try to figure something out all over again.. Same thing happened with my last pregnancy. I was hoping it wouldn't this time, but oh well.. Last time it ended at about 10 weeks, so I am hopeful..

Today I am all about green olives with pimento inside :yum

Something will sound good and then a few hours later the thought of it makes me want to yak.

I had two weeks of really bad, processed food eating, but am FINALLY starting to crave healthy things again. Tonight we are having hummus and pita sandwiches and I've been looking forward to it all day!

Sweet carrots have been tasting good as well.

For morning things, I struggle. Seems that when I eat crap for dinner I puke more in the morning, so I try to make sure I'm eating a good dinner. Snacking on dry cereal when DD nurses in the early morning, and then eating something else starchy while still in bed helps. I have a toaster on my nightstand and some english muffins. I also have brown rice cakes, saltines, peppermint candies, and lemon drops within an arms reach. Its been hardest on DD because she wants to go downstairs for breakfast right away and I need to be still for about an hour or more before I'm ready to go downstairs.

I try to take comfort in that I ate really well before becoming pg and before the m/s and I'm doing my best to eat the best I possibly can now. My DH has been out of town for two weeks and I think it will be easier once he is home because I can make him cook for me :lol

:lol at the toaster on the nightstand, that's awesome.

It's been a big glass of water with lemon juice then eggs with greens for me in the morning. I'm definitely developing a starch aversion.

I can't eat right away though, I have the water with lemon juice and a cup of herb tea then I can think about eating.

Vegan preggo here :lol And I don't eat tuna but I know what you mean about kind of wanting that texture/flavor.
I had a tofu salad sandwich yesterday...complete with chopped onions and pickles : )
P.S. I know what you mean about the vegetable aversion, Jess/bean...gosh, the idea of them sounded "eh" today but the last few days...uuuuuggghhhh.
Christina, lemonade has been good in the morning for me...last week it was fresh fruit and now I can't think of it. I've already had some luck the last few days just not eating until 11 a.m. This morning I had a big pink lemonade and that sat very well : )
It's just hit or miss...
I don't remember feeling this way with my son at all...
